We got up late this morning. A combination of staying up late to watch the recording of the Australian F1 GP qualifying and the daylight saving induced shifting of the clocks. And we got up in a panic. It was past ten, and we were expecting friends over at noon. Friends who had been promised mutton biryani that we hadn't even begun to cook.
So that called for a quick and easy, no frills breakfast.
Took two rolls, fresh from the bakery. Okay, they were fresh when we got them a couple of days ago, but they would be fine once we were done with them. Spread them liberally with lemon & coriander hummus.
Tore up a slice of smoked ham onto the rolls.
We have various blocks of Gouda in the freezer, lying in wait for occasions such as these. There is a delicious one with cumin, and we dug that out for a quick grate and sprinkle.
Then for around 10 minutes in the oven on high heat, followed by five minutes under the grill. They could have been left under the grill a little less... the final result was a little charred around the edges, but tasted just fine. The ham and cheese rolls were accompanied by some lovely fresh brewed coffee from Coorg.
