Any Purcell fans in Philly? Besides me?

I have been informed by the usually useless 'Funsaver' newsletter sent out by PhillyFunGuide.com that the Center City Opera Theater will be performing Henry Purcell's Dido & Aeneas this Sunday afternoon, May 2! You all are aware of my long-standing and often voiced complaint that there is never any Baroque opera staged in this city, so to get this unexpected surprise in the same season as the upcoming production of Gluck's Orphée & Eurydice by the Opera Company of Philadelphia (completely different organization) is too good to be true. The start of a trend, perhaps? One can only hope...

Best of all? The Funsaver discount code makes tickets for this show 1/2 price! So I get a lovely afternoon at the opera for under $20. I'd say that's a win, no?

In other news, methinks I should take myself off to the Art Museum today to see the Picasso and the Avant-Garde in Paris exhibit, as this is the final weekend it will be on display. I'm not especially fond of Picasso, but it's a cultural experience, and educational, and what the heck else did I buy that membership for if I'm not going to use it? Anyway, if I get fed up with Modernists I can always go hang out in the Gainsborough room and read Georgiana's novel ;)

Lastly--The verdict on SheerBliss Pomegranate Chocolate Chip ice cream? Every bit as delightful as one might imagine, and as far as flavor and texture go one of the best ice creams I've ever had. I recommend seeking it out!
