Dame Darcy Dolly-Head Brooch
From Dame Darcy's Etsy shop! Combines two of my very favorite things (well, three if you include fibercraft...). And so reasonably priced, too! It will look adorable on my pink button-down cardigan...
After I purchased this...hmm, rather unusual accessory this morning, I got to thinking about a couple of experiences I have had while shopping in the past few weeks that I haven't mentioned here before. Recently I have been told by complete strangers, obviously meaning to insult me, that I remind them of either Ugly Betty or Mimi from The Drew Cary Show. Really, snarky sales associate? Do you see me laughing in your face over your too-tight sweatpants with suggestive mottos written across the ass? No, you do not (I have the decency to keep it to myself until you're out of earshot). But I suppose it makes some people feel superior to make cheap shots at chubby girls who wear purple. Nevermind. I simply confound my would-be antagonists by thanking them kindly for the comparison, saying how much I love that show(s), and ending by saying that I guess someone at ABC needs to give me my own sitcom (mmymoon, you still want to be the Rhoda, right?), since the ladies they mentioned are obviously doing someting right. This last usually confuses them profoundly (they've lost the plot of the conversation at this point), allowing me to walk off with a smirk.
All this is to say--look folks. I'm nearly 30. I have a very established, if eccentric, sense of style, and I refuse to be made ashamed of that fact. Yes, I have a few extra pounds, and frizzy hair. I occasionally go a bit heavy handed with the eyeshadow. I wear my signature colors of pink and purple proudly, and I love distinctive jewelry, including the occasional dolly head. And I'm very happy that way! So please keep your snide comments and boring khakis to yourself, thank you ^_^
