You are not...not...I repeat, NOT...allowed...to turn Mr. Darcy into a vampire >_< I suppose it was inevitable; vampires are of course turning up everywhere these days, but...good grief. The zombies didn't bother me so much, but undead Mr. Darcy is really the outside of enough.
If you are, however, inclined to explore this unholy tangent of the ever-expanding Austen Multiverse (And honestly, her spin-offs could probably put DC and Marvel to shame at this point o_O), you will have not one, but two opportunities to indulge your blood-sucking fancy; both, interestingly enough, from authors who have previously taken it upon themselves to retell Pride and Prejudice from Mr. Darcy's perspective. Clearly they haven't yet tortured the poor man enough...
So. From
Amanda Grange (author of
Mr. Darcy's Diary, etc.) we get
Mr. Darcy, Vampyre; and
Regina Jeffers (author of
Darcy's Passions: Pride and Prejudice Through His Eyes) brings us
Darcy's Hunger: A Vampire Retelling of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
Despite my snarky reluctance to embrace this emerging sub-genre (no seriously, once it hits three books it qualifies as a sub-genre, and just look at
Jane Bites Back: A Novel), I will almost certainly end up reading these two anyway. Indeed, after reading over the entries in Amanda Grange's
Mr. Darcy, Vampyre blog, and seeing that her inspirations for the book, outside of Austen, range from Buffy to Byron to Lovecraft...well, I have a fondness for all of those things, so of course I am intrigued to see how she incorporates them into the narrative. (Oh, and if you are interested in winning a copy of Ms. Grange's novel,
see here!)
Really though, can this be the end of the vampire novels, please? I'm getting rather tired of them. But then, I have a reputation for being something of a spoilsport :p I'll just take myself off to read more Heyer now :D
