More Awesome Pinkness--and Poe

Jun 26, 2009 14:27

Last night I attended a cabaret evening in support of the Haunted Poe project. The event was mc'd by Dame Darcy, who was resplendent in her mermaid finery, and regaled the audience between sets with sea shanties and folk ballads while accompanying herself on banjo & tambourine. The acts were made up of a wide variety of artists, including a (female) Poe impersonator, a 12 year old girl who gave a fabulous sock-puppet interpretation of 'The Raven', the 'Philly Poe Guy' (who wrote that piece in the City Paper that caused such a fuss), and musical presentations from several groups, most notably one of my local favorites, Fern Knight.

In the midst of all this fun stuff, I have to say that the performer who stole the show was singer/songwriter Jessica Delfino, who, decked out gorgeously head-to-toe in lovely vintage-y pink, sang her special brand of hilarious and racy 'dirty folk' music, playing her pink guitar and OMG pink Flying V ukulele!!!. I know it will make me a dreadful copycat, but DUDE, I am totally buying one of these (right after I pay the rent >_<). According to Wikipedia, Ms. Delfino actually defeated our beloved Flight of the Conchords in a musical competition o_O However, she proved herself fabulous enough that I won't hold it against her :p (Just ordered her CD, as a matter of fact...)

As a nice cap to the evening, I got a copy of Fern Knight's album Music for Witches and Alchemists on vinyl for my collection ^_^ The only down side to the night was that I forgot to take my camera. It was a really fun time, and I would have liked to have some pix to share with you guys :(

Ah well, on to more prosaic matters--laundry time!

I shall have one! Oh yes...
