Yeah, I can't find the US release date anywhere. But I obtained it through *ahem* alternate means. Haven't listened to it yet, but I love the album art!
Oh, I did too *winkwink* You'd be surprised what you can find if you poke around comment threads on blogs... I haven't listened to it yet either, but regardless, I know I'll be buying the CD anyway. The Baebes are one of the bands whose releases are required additions to my collection.
Of course, what I really want is a new Miranda Sex Garden album, but I'm not holding my breath for that any time soon.
Most definitely! I have a folder set aside away form the main MP3 library for songs to try out, and Mediaeval Baebes never go in there.
Listening to it this morning, and I'm digging it. I think my belly dancers would like this for some performances (as they've already used them before) because they have a definite beat. Some tracks are a little too, I don't know, Irish influenced for that though...
Oh goodness...it's hard to know where to start with MSG...I guess it depends on what your main musical interest are. There is a wide divide between the first disk and the later ones. Madra, the very first, is even more strictly classical than the Baebes albums. Three voices doing English madrigals, no instrumentation. I'd compare that one more to Anonymous 4 than anything else. Iris (probably closest of the MSG albums to the MB style) and Suspiria transition through a more mediaeval-Loreena McKennitt-ish sounding phase, with some dark cabaret thrown in; until finally in Fairytales of Slavery (my favorite) and Carnival of Souls, they achieve a melding of the earlier influences with a more hard-edged punkish darkwave/goth rock. I know it sounds like a mess, the the end result is really spectacular. All five are available on last.fm, so I hardily endorse just sampling a few tracks from each to see what you like :)
