Oscar de la Renta ~ Resort '09
Resort? Resort! 'Resort' is one of the in between 'fashion-seasons-that-isn't-really-a-Season' that have cropped up in recent years....basically it's filler between Fall and Spring, and usually not much of consequence shows up on the runway. In fact, this is the first Resort season that I can remember getting any significant coverage in the mags or on the online fashion sites.
And though filler it may be, this filler...this filler I like! The cascading blue dress brings to mind frothy ocean waves on a tropical beach (quick, Devil Wears Prada fans, is it turquoise or cerulean???), while the underskirt on the pink is reminiscent of coral. The other evening gowns in this collection evoke the summer season in various ways (see a few examples under the cut). Aside from my beloved eveningwear, this collection as a strong daywear element as well, with pieces offering a playful reinterpretation of classic lines in saturated jewel tones. Overall a most satisfactory set, even if I'm not a fan of bright blue or green (or orange, or mustard yellow...).
