'Portrait of Wilhelmine Encke' ~ Anna Dorothea Therbusch

Jun 28, 2011 11:14

My Twitter friend Kat Aubery ( @carnivalerian) posted this portrait in her blog The Minx's Farrago yesterday, and I had to swipe it, for obvious reasons. But not only is this an utterly fabulous painting, I'm rather astounded to find that Kat has managed to dredge up an 18th century female painter that I've never heard of! Granted, she's Prussian rather than French, but still...research time! I hope to be bringing you more info about and paintings by this lady in the near future.

Meanwhile, enjoy feathers, pink gown, & puppy!

(Full title: Portrait of Wilhelmine Encke,
Since 1974 Countess Wilhelmine von Lichtenau,
Mistress of Frederick William II of Prussia)
