Spring Wardrobe Musings

Greetings once again! Two days in a row--I'm on a roll :p Since this is my only day/evening off this week, I am endeavoring to be up & about, rather than sleeping away all the daylight hours. I have plenty of chores around the apartment to see too, most notably removing all the contents of a precariously leaning bookshelf before it collapses (I foresee a trip to Ikea in the not-too-distant future...).

But the main reason for this little post is to discuss one of my favorite topics: Dresses! It has been an age since I have purchased any especially nice clothing; between my determination to save as much money as possible, and my determination not to buy any new clothes until I loose enough weight to fit into my old ones again, I've reached a bit of an impasse fashion-wise. However, after several months of working all night long and wearing nothing but sweatpants and t-shirts (and this from the girl who once upon a time wouldn't be caught dead in any variety of pants as long as there was a skirt to be had), I'm feeling a desperate need to get back to wearing things that make me feel like myself again. Just as changing my employment situation has vastly improved my mood and boosted my confidence, I feel certain that having a few nice outfits that actually fit me properly will go a long way towards helping me get over my reluctance to go out in public to social events and whatnot in what little free time I have.

Thankfully, I knew exactly where to go to get what I wanted. A while back, mmymoon put me onto the wonderful site Holy Clothing. They offer the kind of garments I love--long skirts, full sleeves, generously sized--all handmade and covered in embroidery and lace. Best of all, they are very reasonably priced. I was able to purchase the two dresses below and this skirt for just over $100. Not cheap by any means (not on my budget, at any rate), but certainly affordable.

What I love most about this site is the variety of colors available. In particular, I am especially thrilled by the fact that many of their designs are offered in multiple shades of purple! That is the color I have always been the most comfortable wearing. Don't get me wrong, I love pink, but it never quite works with my skintone; purple, on the other hand, I can work like nobody's business. Soon I intend to have an entire closet full of witchy violet & lavender gowns. To start with, though, just these two. They've already shipped out, and I expect them to arrive in a couple of weeks.

I've also been inspired to design some necklaces to go with these dresses--another nice side effect of having new fashions to look forward to, I suppose. My crafty inclinations haven't turned towards making jewelry in a year, at least...

But you are all surely tiring of my self-indulgent ramblings by this point, yes? I'd better go see to that bookshelf...

P.S. ~ Valentine's stitchery is coming! I just need to do the finishing touches, and I'll probably wait till morning to take pix for better light. I think it's pretty cute, hopefully you all will like it ;)
