PC Shit

I'm building a new box as of right now, and have come to a few conclusions:

AMD, despite it's current lacking status in the face of Intel, can produce a mean processor. The 5000+ Black Edition processor, for example, is down to 99 bucks and has a completely unlocked multiplier, which means that you can essentially overclock from 2.6ghz standard to 3.1~3.4ghz without any voltage changes. Cooling it could be problematic, but with a decent aftermarket copper cool/fan mount assembly it would be hitch free and run at or around 30C

Mushkin makes very fine RAM, and even better 'budget' RAM, or older series DDR2 shit. 8gigs in 2x2 kits 1000 DDR2 is just over 200 bucks on newegg right now. Awesome times.

MSI has really pushed forward the last year or two and is now officially a great brand, my 8800GT rebrand of theirs is fantastic and comes with it's own aftermarket copper cooling heatsink.

Anyway, all told, a new box that will push benchmark software and run phenomenally for another 3 - 5 years (like my current box did back when) is only going to cost me in the neighborhood of $1500... which Golden West will give me an interest free loan for *and* the payments come out before my taxes do. Huzzah.

Otherwise my life has been calm. The birthday went down in a good way; had waffles, ate a huge steak, got a wonderful guitar, got some cash.

It's been a good past few months.

I cut my hair in the bathroom the other day. It didn't turn out half bad!
