The past few nights had been long, sleepless ones for Una. For reasons she couldn't quite explain, she felt drawn to the night, and more specifically, to the night sky. But finding a place in New York City dark enough to be able to see the stars through the layers of smog and polluted air was proving to be a much more difficult task than she had imagined when she first took it on. But three nights of restless sleep had caused even the most calm and usually collected Una Willows to begin to question her judgment in moving to New York.
Lack of a night sky had never bothered her before, and though she had always taken a keen interest in the celestial bodies and what the universe beyond the atmosphere had to offer, it wasn't until she was unable to see them did she grow anxious and weary. It was for that reason, yet again, that she found herself wandering Central Park just after sunset, straining desperately to try and catch a glimpse of the moon from behind the oppressive light and clouds that blocked it.
Perhaps it was the smog. Perhaps it was the days of little sleep. Or maybe it was the fact that she hadn't been able to see a star in weeks that had her head swimming as she removed her flip flops and wriggled her toes in the soft, lush grass. At least not all of New York was loud and obnoxious.
