Looking not a little haggard, Holden propped himself up on one hand, staring down at his half eaten Big Mac. Sleep had been hard to come by, what with rushing, vivid dreams that had been haunting him and the unpleasant feeling that he was missing something that inevitably followed. He had decided to avoid sleep days ago, and the only 24 hour place he could think of was McDonalds. It was hardly an awe inspiring restaurant.
What little food he'd managed to eat had been bland and lukewarm. The florescent lights and overwhelming shades of red and yellow were making him regret the location. And still, Holden was reluctant to return back home. Every time he settled down in his apartment, sleep managed to sneak up. Here, at least, the steady trickle of other late night customers and the noise of whatever radio station they had playing would jerk him from his exhausted stupor when it got too bad. Dismissing the rest of his food, Holden tore listlessly at the paper wrapper it had come in. He would have to return home and sleep eventually, but he there was probably another good hour of avoidance he could manage for the night. Or morning. Holden wasn't quite sure what time it was.
