Dancing through life... [If you can continue the song, ILU]

Terry had a job.

Well, she always had a job--and it was weird to be able to say she worked as a dance teacher while she was still a dance student. The classes were a formality, really--she was only there so she'd have some credentials to flash. She knew dance, knew the shape of it and the color of it and the way movement and sound and rhythm all ( Read more... )

The trouble with school is, they always try to teach the wrong lessons... youthful_one June 26 2010, 20:19:59 UTC
Hebe was sitting on a bench, reading and listening to her own music, when she saw the woman dancing in the park. She grinned and tilted her head curiously, wondering what the woman was listening to.

The song was heavily inspired by Vanessa Carlton, but it was an original work by the group Terry was working with. It inspired more than a few ballet-like moves throughout the duration. It was about seven and a half minutes, though Terry skipped back a few times to refine or change a movement.

Near the height of the song, the clip holding her MP3 player slipped off her belt, unable to hold on through so many moves, and she stumbled and fell without the music. She sighed and opened her eyes, spotting Hebe and grinning sheepishly.

Wicked is the best, and you are my favorite for working it in! youthful_one June 27 2010, 02:31:56 UTC
Hebe smiled and waved. "Nice dancing. Up until that last part, anyways." She laughed, "Are you alright?"

:D I love Wicked, and that song was so perfect for Terry, I had to! lovesthedance June 27 2010, 03:49:34 UTC
"Fine, I think, except for my ego," Terry said, standing and brushing grass off her. "Not like that was in the best shape to begin with." She grimaced. "It'll look better when I'm done. The--dance, I mean."

"It looks pretty good to me." Hebe shrugged. "I don't really know a lot about dance, though." She smiled, holding her hand out. "I'm Hebe, by the way. Hebe Jones."

"Well, there's still four parts to choreograph, and I didn't finish that one..." Terry ran a hand through her hair, a little embarrassed. She wasn't at all used to people praising her dance. "I'm Terry. Terry Masters." Then the name registered. "Hebe, like the goddess?"

"Wow, that sounds like a lot of work." She stuck her hands in her pockets and tilted her head. "Yeah, like the goddess. Not many people know about her. You like Greek mythology?"

"Not too much, really. I make it sound like a lot for the client, but it comes naturally to me." She smiled; that was the one thing about herself she was really proud of. The reason for it was just, well, a reason. A side effect she had to live with. "I, um... went on a reading spree recently. Read all the Greek mythology I could get my hands on." Trying to find some mention of Terpsichore and failing. But she wasn't going to say that. "Can't say I remember much of it, but I do remember the names."

"That's pretty cool, that you're good at it naturally. Lucky." She scratched her head, wondering if Terry had heard something about Hebe in her readings. "So, ah, what's your favorite story from Greek Mythology?"

Terry picked up her music player and clipped it back on her belt. "Wow, that's... kind of a lot to go through. There's a lot of material there." But Terry already knew. "I guess... the muses. They don't show up a lot, but... the whole idea of there being these beings that live for the arts, and inspire people. It's really cool."

Hebe shrugged, trying to look nonchalant. "The whole muse thing is pretty cool. I can see why you'd like that the best. So, who was the muse of dance?" Curious? No, of course not...

Terry's heart skipped a beat. "Terpsichore," she said at last. She knew it off the top of her head--she knew all the muses' names, of course, but Terpsichore was the easiest to remember. It was what she'd gotten her name from, after all.

"Terpsichore. That's right." Hebe vaguely recalled a Terpsichore, but had no major memories of her. Too bad. "My favorite is Hebe. Big surprise, I know." It ought to have been, otherwise she'd never have named herself that.

"Yeah, she... she wasn't a big figure. Most of the Muses weren't." Terry unconsciously moved her hands over her stomach. "One story said she was the mother of the Sirens. I, um... I don't remember much about Hebe besides the name. And I want to say youth. But that's it."

"That's fascinating." Hebe notices Terry's hands move but ignores it for the moment. "Yeah, Hebe was the goddess of youth. Daughter of Hera and Zeus, wife of Heracles. She was the cupbearer of the gods. She had two sons too, according to some stories." She doesn't remember having kids, so she's pretty sure the humans made that up.

Terry raised an eyebrow. "Daughter of youth had kids? Seems kind of contradictory."
