[Samael wasn't actually in any pain. He wasn't in anything much. Over the past twenty-four hours, his sedation had been reduced and he'd been extubated. He was breathing unaided but he was still largely sedated. His head was shaved, courtesy of the neurosurgeons, though the scar from surgery was tiny. His left hand was in a cast and, even though most people look very small in a hospital bed, Samael still gave the impression of sheer bulk, even with tubes and wires and any manner of beeping machines and monitors around him.
Consciousness drifted back slowly and periodically before deserting him again. He hadn't managed to open his eyes yet but, on Saturday afternoon, at 3.17pm, his eyelids scraped open.
Daphne had remained by his side, it was her duty as her sister and a Blackwell to look after him. It was difficult for her to see her brother like this, he had always been so strong- so... well, present that seeing him in a hospital bed had her more than 'unhappy'. From where she sat, she was staring at the white sheets of his bed, and it was by sheer chance that she turned to him when his eyelids opened.
"Dante." She was by his side in an instant, hand pressing over his cheek to draw his attention to her.
He blinked. It took quite some effort to force his eyes open again. He wrinkled his nose, or maybe only thought he did. The nasal prongs providing him with oxygen remained in place. His lips parted but he was unable to speak, still. How fucking frustrating. His eyes fixed on his sister's and the very corner of his mouth twitched. It as an attempt at a smile because, above all else, he was supposed to reassure and protect his sister.
His thoughts were still cloudy and the memory of the Horsemen attacking him was remote, niggling at the corner of his consciousness but unimportant just now.
"Just rest." Reza replied, hand moving to give his shoulder a little squeeze of reassurance. Yeah, he was the big brother and everything, but Daphne enjoyed being the strong one in these moments- not that she'd want him to be suffering just so she could prove this- far from it.
"I'm going to call the others and let them know you're about." Another light squeeze and Daphne pushed away from the bed, pulling out her phone (that she was not supposed to use in the hospital but whatever). A quick text message was sent to all the Blackwells. He's coming around a bit more now.]
