The Hunger Games - Part II

ARE THERE MORE BOOKS LIKE THAT OUT THERE? AND IF SO WHY HAVEN'T I FOUND THEM YET???????

So, my silly self a third of the first book in, made a small List of Things to Expect. I thought it'd be you know predictable. I'm funny aren't I?

1. Peeta will die and Kat will def end up with Gale although she really loves/has chosen Peeta.
2. The bird on the pin is a sign of the Revolution.
3. Kat will manage to bring all/most of the tributes to cooperate to survive. Although that will probably happen next year, meaning
4. Kat will win this year’s Hunger Games and will volunteer for next year’s also.

Where I went wrong:

1. I am so glad I got this wrong. Killing the one third of a love triangle is a dramatic way of eliminating the dilemma so phew! But I was so afraid to pick a side because man I was sure there'd be heartbreak for me at the end and AHAHAHAHAHHA fuck yeah there was heartbreak but no way could I have guess how much and in which wayS.

So much unfairness, and gloom, and despair for fucks sake I still don't get how an author can make their characters go through that kind of pain. I mean, they're real to me and I've just met them three days ago, what the hell went through your mind Ms. Collins? Peeta lived. He seemed doomed from the start with that impossible task of saving Katniss but he made it.

2. Hey that was obvious. Verry nicely done. And taken to levels I never could have imagined. Combined with the fact that this is reality show premiere frenzy period right now, television has never seemed so obscene. I don't think I'll ever forget Cato's death.

3. Ok I was going to say I got that wrong but she did. Without her knowledge. And the fact she was still a pawn and didn't actually rally the victors with her powers of persuasion (Haymitch ftw) at that point in my eyes saves Kat from self-importance. I... well.. the first person present tense narration was hard okay? It works great for the action but it comes out as self-involved the rest of the time. But damn if it isn't justified.

4. Volunteer for the Hunger games a second time? God I didn't know, I didn't know.

The thing that killed me the most is the fact that I expected to find some purity and ideals elsewhere, namely District 13.You need the fucking Promise Land I mean come on! The External Focal Point, the Thing to Believe In. The fact that there was a hopeful outcome despite the lack of this is to me unimaginable. Katniss had even lost her boy with the bread at that point. Damn Katniss! Just damn.

P.S. Is the books' official facebook page meant to be ironic? Cause it really isn't.

books, hunger games
