Summary: Thalia stalks Eve.
Lost, so lost. Thalia had no working map functions in her brain, and as such she could herself very lost in the building she was lost in, looking for her TA's shared office. It'd been moved since to this building, and nothing was helping her find it. How big could a building be anyway? Ridiculous.
The thesis research felt heavy in the Muse's bag as she shuffled about, peeking around corners and making faces when she learned what she thought was the correct hallway was in fact not.
She sagged into a wall in defeat.
~*~
Eve, on the other hand, was attempting to find a quiet place where she could study and avoid a few people. Ever since word got out that she had smelled like apples she was finding it hard to go anywhere on campus without people trying to catch a whiff.
It was not only frustrating, but it was also disrupting her studies. After everything else that the human had dealt with, she refused to allow her school career to suffer.
Glancing behind her to make sure she wasn't being followed, she sighed softly.
~*~
But it was that little glance behind that intrigued Thalia, because while the glance had missed her by a hallway, she'd recognized the girl from the forum, and immediately her mission to find her TA was ready to be abandoned. Learning about other reincarnates was leagues more fascinating than a thesis.
On quiet flats, she slipped away from her wall to follow, making sure to duck behind things the moment she sensed Eve would look over her shoulder.
~*~
After she was assured that she was alone Eve kept walking, knowing that down one of these hallways was her TA's office. She had a course substitution form she needed to pass in anyway, and if she was lucky she'd be able to work on her paper while waiting. It wasn't like her TA would have a problem with her lingering for schoolwork.
For a moment she had the oddest feeling that someone was nearby, but she brushed it off as paranoia as one hand lingered over the fading bite mark on her collarbone.
~*~
Tiptoe, tiptoe. Thalia made an effort not the think of be vewwy, vewwy quiet while seemingly stalking the other girl like a wabbit. She nearly slammed right into an open locker but caught herself just in time, ducking in behind in case she'd made a sound.
And then her bag hit the locker with a loud thunk.
Good job, there.
~*~
Pausing before she turned down the hallway, Eve was certain that time it wasn't just her imagination. There was someone else in the hallway. She could feel it tickling at her subconscious, like they were someone she should recognize, but from where?
Of course, the sound of something hitting a locker was also a dead giveaway.
"Hello?"
~*~
An undignified squeak would've normally left Thalia's lips, but instead she lifted her chin and walked out as casually as possible, lifting a hand to close to locker. "I was just checking out the locker, seeing how durable it was," she lied, not wanting to admit to her stalking experiment, short as it'd been.
She gave the door a dull, but sound, kick with her toes. "I give it an A+."
~*~
It was obvious from Eve's expression that she didn't believe a word of Thalia's excuse, though she wasn't sure if she was expected to. "I see. It's good to know they can take some abuse," she responded, trying to keep the trace of sarcasm out of her tone despite her inability to keep the disbelief off her face.
She couldn't help but smile at the other girl. "I'm sure the school will be thrilled to know you approve."
~*~
It was extremely difficult to keep a lie going, the Muse had long ago found, and so the act fell, her arm falling with it. "I was totally following you, I'm sorry. I saw you and my brain went 'hey! familiar!', so I followed hoping you wouldn't see me, and then my bag and its contents conspired against me."
Which was true. Surely better bags didn't throw themselves against lockers.
~*~
In response to her apparent honesty the Muse received a semi-relieved 'phew' from the human. "Oh good, so I'm not losing my mind. I was starting to wonder." She took a few steps closer, nodding slightly. "I'm Genevieve Jones, but many call me Eve. And you are?" She had seen the other girl around, but didn't know her name.
Inwardly, she was just thankful that the person from the forums wasn't a demon.
~*~
Not including the demonish things she did, such as indulging in lots of Starbucks (surely that was a sin to someone), and teasing her step-brother.
Thalia tucked her hair behind both ears, granting the other girl a sheepish grin, teeth grazing her bottom lip. Her lips parted to spill some words, but only when she cast a quick glance around did she finally speak. Who knew which people would listen in and think they were crazycakes?
"I'm Thalia. Grace Jarrett in this life, but if you're feeling courageous, my first name's really Norma."
~*~
It's not as if Eve would know about anything the other girl did, much like the other girl had no idea Eve secretly fantasized about a certain archangel or two.
Eve nodded slightly at the introduction, aware that her actual name wasn't as out there for a random passer-by to hear as compared to the Muses' name. She was lucky in that respect, and she was thankful for that. It made things so much easier.
"I've been called many things, but courageous was never one, so I'll stick with Grace for now."
~*~
She was greeted with a grin as Thalia edged closer, sticking out a hand, her wrist wrapped in several elastic bands despite there being nothing keeping her hair up. "Then it's nice to meet you, Genevieve. It was lovely stalking you today."
The amused glitter in her eyes was enough to say she meant it, but innocently.
~*~
The response from Eve was a quick laugh as she shook Thalia's hand. "Nice to meet you as well, and can I just say you're the nicest stalker I have ever encountered?" She meant it too. She had the feeling of Samael stalked her people would get hurt.
That glint in Thalia's eyes went unnoticed by Eve, who was oblivious.
~*~
"I better be your only stalker, but you're very pretty so I'm not shocked you've not had people trailing after your heels," the Muse informed her with a beaming grin, a laugh lingering at her lips. While she had her own confidence issues, it was easy enough to compliment others -- and mean it.
~*~
"I wish I could say with certainty that you were, however I have my suspicions that wouldn't be true," the mortal said softly, aware that Samael had already proven frighteningly adept at knowing what was going on in her life. "You're definitely the only woman, if that helps."
~*~
That did happen to surprise Thalia, but she didn't let it show. After all, weren't the best stalkers the ones who didn't show themselves? She was thinking too much on the subject, and so she shook her head, earrings and hair moving with the motion.
"Then I'm happy to be your only lady stalker. But I hope next time we meet, I won't have to follow you." She laughed, a little self-consciously, with a side of sheepishness.
~*~
It's not like Eve had proof that Samael was stalking her, just an strange feeling in the back of her head much like the one that had her believing that his calling her pet was more than just some randomly chosen term of endearment, but that was besides the point.
"I would hope next time we meet you see nothing wrong with walking up and saying hi, or not being surprised if I did the same," she answered, amused.
~*~
A sheepish little blush crossed the other girl's face, and she bit her lip in embarrassment, knowing when she lost a battle. "Yeah, I won't do creepy anymore. Did I interrupt you going somewhere? You looked like you were looking for something."
And if so, Thalia would be of no help. She barely knew the building.
~*~
A look of pure embarrassment came over Eve's face as she leaned closer to Thalia, speaking quietly. "I'm actually attempting to find a place to study in peace, since a few guys from my classes keep trying to... sniff me... after what happened before."
Clearly, Eve assumed Thalia would know what she meant.
~*~
Pressing her lips into a line so as not to laugh -- it was hard, okay -- Thalia nodded fervently, lifting a hand to not touch Eve's shoulder, but urge her to turn as she stepped forward.
"I get you. I got totally lost looking for my TA's office, so if you need someone to get lost with, I'm your girl. Woman."
~*~
Smiling at the other girl -- amazed she didn't laugh at her predicament -- Eve shook her head as she chuckled. "It was not a fun situation."
Looking around, she gestured towards a hallway. "The TA offices are right down there, and if I do need someone to get lost with I'll remember you."
~*~
Green eyes followed that hand, peering for the hallway in question. Well, that settled that. At least the stalking had two benefits: meeting Eve and finding the office.
"So they are," the Muse agreed, settling on bracelet wrapped hand on her hip. "Escort me there? It might be a long journey, I'm warning you now."
~*~
Waiting to make sure the other girl knew where to go, Eve watched patiently. Not all that shocked when she was asked about escorting Thalia there, she shrugged.
"I can do that," the mortal agreed without hesitation. "If the journey is that long I might have a granola bar we can split in my bag."
~*~
What had been the trace of a smile grew into a full out grin on Thalia's lips at the mention of food for their long and treacherous journey to the other corridor. Short as the trip would be, she actually was already growing fond of the nice girl called Eve.
"Deal."
