Reading Job

Dec 31, 2004 10:05

Yesterday was intense, no doubt.

At 12:30 in the afternoon, Thorin passed away. He had been a happy, faithful, fuzzy member of the family for twelve years, and it hurt to see him go.

It was a day of passings overall, in a way. That evening Sean and I had our caregroup going away party. I had the pleasure of picking Courtney up and driving her to the restaurant. The drive over was very good for me. We talked a little about Thorin, more about God, and I got some good perspective I had been missing. By the time we got to the restaurant, I had joy again.

It's a good thing, too, because the night was definitely joyful. Long, loud, and joyful. We partied from 7:00 until 1:00, moving from Buca to Mike's house to Denny's, by way of Applebee's. Court and I wanted to go to Borders, but it closes at 11:00, so that didn't work out. Sigh.

Wow ... so many memories. Everything from Sarah turning REDREDRED (bwahahaha!), to the kindness of God and of our friends as they honored Sean and I, to the sweetness of a conversation we had at Denny's. Everything about the evening was typical of our caregroup at its best, with the exception of no real time of worship. Although even that was okay, because Alex played This is Love for us.

At the very end of the night, I dropped Sean and Peter (Martini!) off at their houses, then took Court back to her place. We had such a good talk, sharing memories, jokes, the Two Member Book Club, thoughts, and prayers. I'm so grateful to God for her as a sister - her wisdom, maturity, perspective, and humor are such blessings to me.

Now it's morning, and as soon as Mike and Chare get home, we're gonna bury Thorin. Last night, there was really one verse in my mind.

"The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be the name of the Lord."
