They've just published the design for the new UK coinage from the Royal Mint.

Umm ... they did  tell the guy he was designing coins, not icons, didn't they?

Once I start getting these in my pocket, I think I'll feel vaguely short changed ...

They do indeed! I think the idea is that they all have a it of the bigger picture - except for the pound coin, which is the bigger picture ... Which is a great concept for an icon set, but a little weird when it comes to national coinage!

Er, well, they're different alright. Sort of neat the way the one pound crest is used but, yeah, much more like icons than currency. In some respects, they're refreshingly unstuffy. ::grins::

I'm holding off final judgement until I get to see them for real - I'm not sure the photos give a proper impression. A long way from being stuffy, that's for sure - although they might give some archeologist pause to ponder several hundred years into the future ... *g*
