Return of the Native

Well.

I'm back.

Doesn't entirely feel like it yet - I think I'm still running on French time, and I've still got that living in a hotel room feeling, where everything around me seems out of place and temporary.  This may be because my little flat is a lot like a hotel room sometimes, but I suspect it's just that having a week away with a clear focus ( Read more... )

Hey, congratulations on the success of your presentation!!!! Very well done, particularly given everything else you juggle in life. Clarity of thinking, that's what it is. The ability to focus. Oh, and probably being a genius helps a little!

So glad you had a lovely time in Grenoble. I'm really glad it wasn't all work and you got some down time to simply enjoy the place. Not enough down time in your life!

Not enough down time ...

So true! Managed to wind down a little bit, only to be wound straight back up again by going to work today. Only took about half an hour! The capper was finding out I had to cancel my workshop because less than three of the volunteers were actually going to turn up. Three is not a sufficient number to be a representative sample of anything. (Except maybe Dahok fans. *g*) So it's back to the drawing board and everything set back by a couple of weeks. *sigh*

Hope your day was better!

Thank you. :-) I'd hoped for another high too, but I've had to postpone the whole thing due to lack of people to participate in it! Have to start rounding up another bunch ...

Congrats! Glad you're making academic progress and that you got to have some fun on the trip.

I just have one question, though-- did you use the BS slide from Mark Jason Dominus' presentation tips? (Seems like it might be appropriate for an academic discussion, at some point....)

Ok, yes, there's a Reason I got out of academia..... And no, I'm not bitter or anything.

No seriously, glad you're back and that you did well.

The picture was tempting, but as I was condensing 33 slides down to 10 there wasn't much room for illustrations. :-)

I think the quality (or otherwise) of academia depends which discipline you're dealing with. The innovation and organisation studies bunch (my lot) tend to have had practical experience in the real world, so they're not so bad.

Well done! It was lovely to see you, and thank you for the choklits, which are amazing. Um, are you going back to Grenoble next year ...?!

Sadly, Tig's Little Problem has not gone away.

Tig's Little Problem has not gone away.

That does make life difficult. :-(

Glad you enjoyed the choklits. Not sure about another trip next year - but if I do, I know where the shop is now ...

Hey, well done you! I'm so glad to hear the trip went well despite the occasional hiccup. Thanks for the trip report, too - very interesting.

Good luck for Tuesday!!

Thank you. :-)

I think the Fates have other plans for my research - I've had to cancel this workshop due to lack of workshopees. But hopefully when I do get a group together they'll have lots to say!
