Eight Thousand and Four Hundred Words later

It's done.

Formatted.

Despatched.

I probably ought to cheer at this point, but - really - I'm far too mentally exhausted to expend the effort.  And I really don't know if the work is any good or not.  I won't know that until I get my supervisor's feedback when I go the Grenoble in January.

Still, it is done, and I have, in theory, written one tenth of my thesis.  Only three years of research and roughly 71,000 words to go ...

In other news, I've managed to complete and post my Yuletide Fic, which wasn't that much shorter, but was a lot easier to write.  More on that after the big reveal, because I don't want to spoil anyone's Christmas surprise.  :-)

I've already wrestled with the vaccum monster, and had tea.  I now have the rest of the evening to - finish the washing up, pack my 'going home for a week and a half' bag, wrap my dearly beloved's pressies, make sure I've put all of the trash into the main bag so I can dump it in the morning, ensure I've got all my half finished WIPs shunted across to the web-site so I can get at them once I get home, and still manage to get an early night because I have to be up and leave by 7:30 tomorrow so I can get to my meeting on time* ...

After which I will be officially on holiday until next year.

Of course, I still have to prepare the 20 min powerpoint presentation which will summarise the Lit review, work on one for a seminar I'm speaking at at the end of Jan, fiddle with job descriptions so I can get my new team posts to the grading panel in the new year, and sort out an advert so I can recruit to cover for a team member's maternity leave - but I will be at home.  With my other half.  With cats (achoo!).  With a wide screen TV and (hopefully) a video of Hogfather to watch.

I might even get some sewing done!

*The meeting is in Leeds.  Which is 120 miles away from the work day flat, but only 60 miles from home.  So I'll be half way home by the time I get there.  :-)
