DEAR YULETIDE AUTHOR

Dear Yuletide Author,

If you're reading this right now, it means you've chosen to write for one of the fandoms I've listed this year. All of these are near and dear to my heart, so it means a lot to me that you've chosen to write for any of them. Each of them has a very small fandom, as far as I'm aware, so really writing anything for them would be great!

Generally, I enjoy stories that focus on character introspection as well as character relationships, but if the idea for an involved, plot-driven story is what strikes you, by all means go for it! I like stories that don't necessarily focus on the bigger picture, but on the mundane details, or ones which explore ideas not fully developed in canon. As you probably know, as you're familiar with the fandoms I've chosen to request for this year's Yuletide, much goes unsaid and unspoken in these canons, and much is left up to the viewer's interpretation, so anything that explores those, or the 'off-screen' moments in canon, would be lovely.

I am also an enormous fan of alternate universes! Whether this means just exploring a different timeline, changing the details of a specific canon event in a "what if" scenario, or setting the characters in a completely different world (I love elaborate crossovers/fusions!) I really, really enjoy seeing authors take characters and ideas from canon and taking them in different directions.

With that said, here are my more fandom-specific ideas/prompts!

EX MACHINA
I love this canon, but it's also heart-breaking as hell, especially with the way things go down. Mostly, I'd like to see a take on any significant canon events going differently: what would happen if Mitch never got his powers? What if he never quit being the Great Machine? What if he hadn't pushed Bradbury away? One idea I'd have loved to see explored is a post-canon, post-apocalyptic scenario where Mitch has tried and failed to stop the other world's invasion, but the earth is somehow still standing, and Bradbury manages to find him in the aftermath - though whether that's a good thing or a bad one is up to you.

Otherwise, I'd generally like to see some of Mitch's escapades as the Great Machine, or some introspection/character study of him and contemplating the choices he's made. I also love Bradbury (and Bradbury/Mitch, but no pairings are all is just fine), so I would definitely not mind anything where he had a big part to play!

SUNSHINE
This book is fantastic, but we spend so much time in Rae's head it's hard to see what's going on outside, sometimes. It's what helps the book keep so much of its appeal, because the reader's limited to her perspective, but sometimes you itch to know what other people are thinking. I'd love to see something from Con's perspective, or Sunshine exploring more of her powers and the world of the supernatural out there. Something where they have to team up and solve something would be interesting - perhaps Rae having to deal with her father's side of the family, or developing what the world is like outside the city?

A lot of details are left vague on the lore, so I'd love something that really fleshes that out. I'm partial to Rae and Constantine as a pairing, but I'd really be happy just seeing them kick ass together.

NOEIN
This canon is complicated as hell sometimes, but also sometimes really simple, and it has built in alternate universes, how cool is that? I'd love to see anything that deals with a character's perspective on what it's like to see his future/past self; Karasu and Yuu lend themselves most readily to this scenario, of course, but an outsider point of view on Haruka's part would also be interesting to see. I feel the canon is very much a story about choices, ultimately, so in a self-indulgent sort of way, what I'd love to see is a fic (or series of short fics) that deal with all the 'what ifs' that we only catch a glimpse of in the series. I want to read about other Yuus, other Karasus, other Harukas.

Alternatively, some post-series closure fic, perhaps, with Haruka and Yuu and how knowing what they do about the (averted) future affects them as they grow up and grow older. I think that kind of experience would be very difficult to shake, and they were so young when it happened that I can't imagine it not changing their lives.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and thank you again for signing up this year. I hope it helped give you some story ideas. I look forward to seeing what you come up with!

Kytha
