Very well actually, which is kind of surprising. Not long after the seeds went into the pots I had a rash of vandalism - by the local gang of squirrels I think. They dug through the scallion seeds, knocked over the tomato plant, dug up all but four of the cucumber seeds (which were just starting to sprout)...you get the idea.
Interestingly they left the beans, lettuce and radishes alone. Everything else seems to have been fair game, including one of the geraniums. Now that everything is up and growing well it seems the critters are leaving them well enough alone. I'm waiting for the day I get home from work and find the rabbits have gotten to all the yummy green stuff but so far that hasn't happened.
And in about a week the radishes should be ready to harvest. I have one container that is half radish and half carrot. The radishes are a quick growing plant and according to the seed pack should be ready to harvest in 45 days, which puts their harvest date around 5/26. We've gotten lots of both rain and sunshine with good temperatures since I planted and honestly the things look like I could harvest them now. But I'll leave them in the first for another week and then pull the first bunch.
Honestly I still have no idea if I did any of this planting stuff correctly or if anything is going to come out OK. The root veggies may not have been given enough room. I'll find out soon enough. And even things don't work out well this year at least I'll have learned something and I can try again next year.
Now I just can't wait for the cucumbers to take off. I have 4 plants left after the critters munched them. It was like they stopped growing for a week or two but now they seem to have taken off again.
Who knew I'd like this domestic stuff?
