“Myth must be kept alive. The people who can keep it alive are the artists of one kind or another. The function of the artist is the mythologization of the environment and the world.”
- Joseph Campbell
I like this quote, and feel it serves to simplistically describe what art is all about, for me at least. This links on to so many paths of thought...For example, I have just been discussing serpentine symbolism and its significance throughout different cultures. An example of a symbol that has been used so widely, it seems to have an importance to the collective unconscious.
Just thoughts...I may post more on the subject. Serpentine symbolism has fascinated me for while, with its recurring nature and variety of forms.
