Isis and Horus appears through Christian symbols as well... and the world over. They're references towards universal manifestation, though each manifestation might differ slightly. The stuff you find in Tibet is probably the world's most inclusive and well-preserved tradition, around. Were you looking at the Bon or more the Buddhist images?
Oh yes, I've been studying all the many variations of the Isis myths in ancient cultures all over the world. The Isis myth is one of the most prevalent in all of the world's cultural hierarchies. I'd been researching a particular branch of Tibetan lore separately, mainly because I'm doing medicinal research on the 'Gyushi', and I had come across Tin Hau - "queen of heaven" according to Taoists, as the Chinese incarnation of Isis. That led me to Saravasti and Lakshmi....then googled for imagery and found a tourism site for the Tibetan/Chinese border that featured random art.
She's a fantastic surreal and goddess-oriented fashion design innovator and performance artist. I am always impressed with her relating of goddess myths in her lyrics, song, and imagery. Do you have (her album) Vespertine at home?
I so indeed have Vespertine. Thank you for thinking of me!!! I guess my best Bjork memories are some of her red carpet costumes - like the golden swan and egg. Good stuff. Do you know her husband's work?
Yes, Matthew Barney is a genius as well. I've seen galleries of a few of his larger installations online, but never in person. I posted about this earlier: http://unit.bjork.com/specials/dr9/ Their collaborative film effort and soundtrack...I really want to see it if possible, but it's not showing in standard theatres, apprently.
I really like the second image down. Thanks for sharing these! That is a lovely picture of Bjork...reminds me of something from a tarot card design/graphic novel art.
