001 [mysterious as the dark side of the moon]

[The hand is neat enough, but has in it relics of a more archaic type--capital letters perhaps larger than a modern reader would find normal, some serifs and flourishes; a trained or talented eye might pick up on the writer being more used to writing with an instrument with a slanted tip.]

Greetings, [pause, as if in recollection], Edensphere. I ( Read more... )

Edensphere is not so much a country but a world in an of itself. But yes, everyone arrives here without memories.

My name is Raise. It's good to meet you, Paladin.

Well met, Raise.

'A world in and of itself'? From what do you draw that conclusion? The map I was given seems to indicate Edensphere being too small for that. Although, in its own way it is a comfort to hear I am not alone in my amnesia.

Well, it is a tree within a glass sphere. While it's too small to be a planet, there is no obvious way in or out. It is self-sustaining and bears life. Size aside, I see no reason for it not to be a world.

I see.

[pen taps]

Which reminds me, a question I did not think to ask Blood: Who is king here?

[A pause.]

There is no true government structure here. We all work together to help each other and sustain our lives. We do our jobs and receive our pay, and everyone deals with things on their own. For who is in the highest authority, it's hard to say.

In times of strife, many look to members of the guard to assist us and lead us, and their leader is Bastet. When we first arrive, lost and confused, we look to the greeters, and their leader is a man named Fugue. Every job as their own captain, as well.

There is no King and no one with birthright, as we are all born in the same manner- and due to sterility, no offspring could be produced anyway.

...No government structure? I see why one might not care to call it a country, then. I shall remember the names Bastet and Fugue, though.

Whither then comes the law of the land, though?

Sterility?

Snap is also the Leader of a group called the Adventurers, who explore the Wilderness.

The law of the land is generally on good faith. People are expected to know how to conduct themselves, as we're all adults here. It's generally not accepted to steal or kill, or things such as that.

Ah.. sterility as in... children cannot be conceived or borne.

[long pause]

The wonders of this Edensphere are many, clearly.

These Adventurers being a type of forester? Once more, I thank you for the name.

Children like Blood are in the severe minority, then? Why would there only be hatched adults?

I cannot say the notion of relying on common sense and common decency alone reassures me much, though perhaps I merely require more time to see the land as it is. ...Although, if the people are so peaceful, from what do the guards protect them?

It is tragic to hear that. Children are a joy. Why must that be?

...Ah, my apologies, it seems I have done nothing but bombard you with questions. I ought know better than to be so rude.

Forester?

Ah... I'm not sure what you mean, but there is a floor in Edensphere that shifts numerous times a month. it changes it's environment, and the Adventurers keep track of the changes and explore it.

Children are a severe minority, though occasionally they do arrive. If I had an answer, then we would be closer to knowing just why we were here. The answers given are only those of experience rather than those of discovery.

The guards are mainly to protect the cocoons that people arrive from... though occasionally there are those with rather loose morals, or natural disasters such as Earthquakes or an invasion of monstrous ants. Not everyone is combat-oriented.

I'm not sure. One of the medics confirmed it months ago- everyone who arrives in completely infertile.

Better for you to question and know than go unawares.

A forester is the keeper of the lord's lands, who oversees the goings-on within, prevents poaching and, should one flee into the forest, gathers worthy men to find hiding criminals.

And this chaotic land is the Wilderness? I thank you for your help.

Ah, monsters and disaster. I understand now--it is wise to have a force on hand to counter such things.

How twisted of this land, to pervert the natural order in such a way. Do there exist groups seeking solutions to these mysteries?

Thank you, Raise.
