so last night i go to bed at around 11:30 or so, after an exhausting day at work and a boring day at home. my birthday is now two days away (the 10th) and my parents, as usual, have some secret planned. well, today i found out what that secret was. he woke me up at 1:15 in the morning. my brother flew out here for my birthday. ^_^ well, he actually flew out for a friend's wedding, but he's staying around to celibrate my birthday with me. so, now i have derrik, mejkin, and my parents to celibrate with. the only one missing is ehrin, who sadly couldn't get the time off work to come. :(
so, about this whole birthday thing. i've been thinking that birthdays are only important, aside from getting gifts, on certain landmarks. throughout pre-college schooling, birthdays are great. but once you hit the 18 mark, they become less of an issue. the next big one is 21 (for obvious reasons), followed by 25 (quarter of a century is pretty big). after that, we all feel obligated not to mention our age to people. i mean, people classify you as old once you hit 40 (or in my parents opinion, 50). so whats the point of even dealing with it? obviously it's important for medical and work related issues, but other than that, what's the point? can't we just say "he's old enough" or "she's not ready for that yet"? i mean, age requirements were created to determine experience. i know some 12 year olds who are more experienced at things than 20 year olds, not to mention more mature.
leave a post if you have a comment. i'm actually curious enough to get answers on this one.
