Oh no, I hurt a straight white cis dude's fee fees!
So, when it comes to Facebook, I typically try to just use it as minimally as possible, to keep up with out-of-state family, and friends from high school / college. I rarely post, I typically only respond to things sent directly to me (wall posts / messages), and tend to ignore / hide people / statuses / posts I am bothered by, because as much as I'd like to be a social justice crusader, I just don't have the time or the energy to continually deal with the bullshit people post.
However, yesterday, the boyfriend dragged me in to a "discussion", and I'm still just fuming, so of course I am bringing it here to vent.
So, this happened:
The asshole in question is actually the guy a friend tried to set me up with, which led to me meeting amosomamos and ending up with him instead (yay!). He's always been someone with questionable humor, who thinks he's "provoking critical thought" by "toeing the line" and making offensive jokes. I typically ignore / hide him, because I just don't care enough to educate him (he lives several hundred miles away, and I rarely see him / talk to him, but we have lots of mutual friends and the boyfriend has known him for a long time).
But, as I mentioned, the boyfriend was harumphing about his post, so I checked it out, and tried to respond in a civil and educating manner. Which he shat all over. No, dude, it is not all about you. No, your "great state" is not "letting you down" by passing legislation that doesn't actually fucking affect you in any way, because you a straight white cis dude. No, I don't fucking care that you're OMG "not a rapist!", like it's some kind of accomplishment, because we still live in a world more concerned with teaching women how to not be raped than with teaching men how to not be rapists.
I just don't even know what else to say to him, because he just has his head so far up his own ass that it's not likely he's going to see sense any time soon. Just ugh.
