picture choice: you may want to pick a picture with a white background if you don't want to have to do cutting. in my case, the original picture had a sky background so it was still pretty whitish.
feel free to edit anything and just play around. it all depends on your picture and your preferences.
1. paste
this texture into your new canvas whatever size you wish. paste this
other texturein and set it to Linear Burn 100%.
2. paste your picture in and set it to Softlight 100%. Erase off the all or some of the background (i simply used a big brush to erase off the top part cause i wanted the buildings there.) Duplicate the Softlight layer, still at 100%. Duplicate the layer once more and set it to Darken 62%. there are some patterns on the background that may show on your pic so you can use the eyedropper tool to select the color of the background and brush over it. the dotty things on the second texture will also make your picture ugly so just erase it off.
3. coloring! :D create a new selective color layer: [this really depends on your picture, so if it looks gross at the end go change whatever you need]
Reds; -21 | +77 | +100 | -14
Yellows ; -100 | -25 | -74 | +41
Neutrals ; +24 | -9 | -8 | -32
Blacks ; 0 | 0 | 0 | +35
4. Hue/Saturation layer.
Master ; 0 | +35 | +11
Reds ; +3 | 0 | -23
Yellows ; 0 | -100 | -27
Cyans ; 0 | -44 | +30
5. Solid Color layer. color e5dac6 set to Multiply 100%. if it looks very dark, just lower the opacity.
6. I added some brushes to the background to make it look more "old paperish", some paper tears, random blotches, using different opacities. i added my text which was Century Gothic, color something a bit brighter than the background, with drop shadow and low opacity stroke. behind the text, i used one of Photoshop's default brushes, i think it's the 3rd last of the default ones in color 624444 at 30% opacity, and just brushed across on a layer beneath the text.
7.still looks a bit dull huh? so add a Brightness/Contrast layer above everything. Brightness: +18, Contrast: +36.
add your finishing touches and your done (:
