"How's the serenity?"....hehe..... My holiday rambling and some photos :D
Yes, I did make it back from my trip alive..........barely! hehe
I kinda already knew that I wasn't a country girl, but this really proved it.
Our holiday destination wasn't 8kms out of Orbost like I was told, it more like 48kms out of Orbost, actually closer to Cann River, but still, pretty much in the middle of nowhere.
The house is on 300 acres of bushland, that they own (with a small river running along the back of the house), then that is surrounded by state forest. You acually have to drive through the forest to get to their property, it's not near the road at all.
Seriously, middle of nowhere!!!
No houses near it.
The nearest shop is a half hour drive away and that's just really basic.
The 5 hour drive ended up being a 6 hour drive, thank god for the air conditioning in the car!!
No electricity! Just a couple of lights in the kitchen, toilet and lounge room that run on solar powered batteries, that you can put on for a few hours at night before you go to bed.
The shower is outside and has almost no water pressure and luke warm water.
There are two lizards that live inside the house! Yuck! I hate anything creepy crawly!
HUGE big flies that bite (and it hurts, believe me).
The weather was disgustingly hot and as there is no insulation in the house, actually there's no plaster on the roof, look up and you can see the tin roof, it was too hot to be inside in the day time, which meant you were out in the sun all day, constantly moving your chair to try to follow the shade from the trees.
Then, again because of the lack of insulation, around 5am you wake up freezing cold.
Despite all this, I ended up having a pretty good time, although I was very happy to get home!! The first thing I did was take a long shower and couldn't believe how clean I felt afterwards :D
There ended up being 7 adults and 2 children.
While we were up there, the boys spent a lot of time riding the dirt bikes around, and us girls stuck closer to the house as I had Ava and another of my friends had her child too.
Ava had a few turns on the ride on mower with my friends dad, who owns the place and is currently up there working on the property.
He let her do the steering!!! She was heading towards a fence, then toward a hole, then toward one of our cars!!!!!!
She loved it!!
Of course there was a lot of "How's the serenity" and "Dale dug a hole" and "Tell 'em they're dreamin'"!! (Quotes from "The Castle")
We went to a beach one afternoon (I think it was Pearl Point at Cape Conran), it was beautiful there, although I'm used to the bay at home and this was an ocean beach so the water was freezing, but after a 38 degree day it was beautiful. We were the only people on the entire beach!!
