My Sydney Mardi Gras Weekend 2011 - part 1
Ok, so I hope you all enjoyed my quick post and Alex Pettyfer on the loo yesterday!! lol
As most of you know, last weekend I went to the glbtqi Mardi Gras in Sydney!!
OMG!! It was awesome!!
I thought I might do this post in two parts. Part 1, tell you all about my weekend, with just one pic, then Part 2 a big pic post from the parade :-)
I had been waiting for this weekend for so long! Not only was it going to be my first ever Mardi Gras (after wanting to go for years), I was also going to be catching up with (and staying with) some awesome online friends.
I had already met eireinn in person twice but had never met annella or shezza_211 !
On Friday my plane ride up to Sydney was a bit nerve wracking, as I'm afraid of heights!! I don't mind it once it's up and level, but the going up and coming down freaks me out!!
I kept myself distracted by talking to the guy next to me, Joel 28yrs old! lol
He was really nice. I totally should have got his FB or Twitter.
He was going to go to Mardi Gras too, but there were so many people, I had no chance of finding him!
Once I landed and met up with the girls, it was instant friends and singing along to Christian Kane in the car!!.... while bitching about the fact that he cancelled on us Aussies AGAIN!!! hehe
We went back to eireinn 's place to get changed and head out for a night on the town!!
After dropping annella at a friends,, we headed into the city and went out for dinner, then upstairs to The Retro!!
The Retro was awesome!!!!!!
Downstairs plays a lot of top 40 stuff, while upstairs is all 70's and 80's!!! Needless to say we spent most of the night upstairs! :-)
It was so much fun!!!
We seriously danced for about 7 hours!!!
The DJ became our best friend, and gave us lollipops and glow sticks! He also took a special interest in shezza_211 ! lol
We had a bunch of random guys coming and going all night, to dance with us. A few were cute, a couple not so much!
One guy was such a weird dancer that the DJ called us over to say "I want to shoot the person who told him he could get laid with moves like that!!" lmao!!
The DJ also made a comment about us attracting all the weirdo's in the place!! My response was "it's a talent"! hehe
shezza_211 almost picked up, but then he got all weird and was giving any guy death looks that came near her! Freak!
Before we realised he was a freak, when she was dancing all up against him, the DJ called me over and was saying "No! She can do so much better than him!!" I'm pretty sure he meant himself! ;-)
I had a guy that kept backing up to me, wanting me to feel his bum (and his friend who was cute)... and another guy, who was actually hot, start dancing with me, only to get very close and rub his crutch against mine!!
Well, I'm married, so while I enjoyed the attention, I had to keep stepping back.
It was really nice to get all that attention (weirdo's or not. lol), gives you a bit of a confidence boost :-)
There was also this guy that stood on the dance floor for most of the night, not dancing, just watching us dance, which was a bit icky!
When we eventually left, the DJ begged us to come back the next night and even gave us free passes!
I wish I had have taken my camera!
As we were driving out of the carpark, this cute guy just came up and opened my car door and was trying to get us to drive his friend home! He's all "He's not a rapist, I promise!!.. and he's only killed two people, but they totally deserved it! He's only killed bad people!" lol
eireinn , who owns the car, politely said NO!
Funny thing is, if it hadn't have been a young cute guy that opened the door, I'm sure we would have all freaked out!
We got back to eireinn 's house about 3am and went straight to sleep.
I shared eireinn 's bed with shezza_211 , while eireinn shared the bed with the dog upstairs ;-)
On Saturday, by the time we had a sleep in, got ready, bought wings and feather boas and caught the train to the city, our brunch ended up being about 1:30pm!
We met up with annella at Pancakes on the Rocks! (Did I mention that I have been on a really strict diet all year, and this was my weekend off!!!)! I had a stack of pancakes with strawaberries and syrup with chocolate sauce on the side!! OMG!! YUM!!
I finished getting ready for the Mardi Gras at the restaurant because I hadn't wanted to be walking around in fishnet tights in the morning! lol
Off to Mardi Gras we went!!
We had to get there about 4 hours early to get a good position and we still weren't front row... but we were second row!
We had the most adorable, cute gorgeous crew member in charge of our area!! His name was Michael, and we all (well, at least I know shezza_211 and I did) fell for him immediately!! I will put pics of him in the next post!! (pic post)
We all looked fabulous in our wings, feather boa's and hair glitter!!...

The Mardi Gras itself was AMAZING!!!!!
So many hot gay boys!! shezza_211 and I were picking all the hot guys we wanted to take home (well, we can dream! lol).
I should make it very clear to you all, if you haven't figured it out by now, my taste in guys is Hot, Young and Gay!!
I always say I should have been a gay boy, and funnily enough shezza_211 is the same!! hehe
The costumes and atmosphere were unbelievable!
There was such a sense or pride! I wasn't expecting to be moved the way I was. I felt so strongly for the people marching!... I felt, I can't explain it, just so proud to be there supporting them. So happy for these people who were getting cheered on for being who they were! Later when I thought about it, it was a bit sad, because they don't get that support on a day to day basis.
Even though I myself am "straight", I feel extremely strongly about gay rights!
The feeling at the parade though was... seriously, I can't put it into words!
The women in front of us got really drunk, and became REALLY annoying, but it didn't spoil our night :-)

As keen as we had been earlier, to go clubbing after the parade, by the time it did finish, all we wanted to do was go to bed!! haha
The crowds leaving were incredible!!!!
Once we got a bit more room, shezza_211 and I spotted a hot gay boy in only red jocks, and decided wherever he was headed was the way we needed to go!!!!! Eventually eireinn and annella decided it was time to put their foot (feet) down and make us head for the station!!
Once again, we parted ways with annella .
After a VERY GIGGLY train ride home (seriously, anyone would have thought we were really drunk, but none of us had drank anything!) and a giggly hour in bed while eireinn read us some "damn you auto correct", another much needed sleep and sleep in!
On Sunday, we went to lunch and then to the cinema to see the gorgeous Alex Pettyfer (see above for link to his loo pic) in I Am Number Four. I was expecting it to be crap, but I actually really enjoyed it! AND Alex Pettyfer took his shirt off a number of times in the movie, which we decided was probably written into his contract ;-)
I'm actually seeing it again this week with my sister!!
It was so funny during the movie, because we all kept thinking and saying things at the same time!!!
We are all just way too alike!! lol
eireinn calls it the fangirl mindset!! ;-)
Unfortunately, it was then time to head to the airport.
I didn't have a boring wait though, because so many people had travelled to Sydney especially for Mardi Gras, that the airport was full of hot gay boys!!! lol
So, I've been extremely tired this week, but it was well worth it, and I am DEFINITELY going back for Mardi Gras next year!!
