southern summertime

It's hot.
The sun shining bright through hazy sky.
Cars fly by, distant honks a counterpoint to the whine of a thousand cicadas frantically searching.
The difference between outside in the air thick with moisture and song and inside
arctic cold. Mechanical assistance to dry and chill the world to a hermetically sealed sameness.
Outside takes a deep breath, eyes closed.
Feeling the hot orange on the inside of eyelids and the pricks of sweat deep inside your scalp.
