A subtle winter sunset on the Delaware Bay comes complete with numbed fingers.

Part of M.J.'s new year's resolution this year involves Jersey. Since she works there, and has family there, but doesn't get out too much over there aside from the obvious spots...and also since it's the most densely populated state in the country with so much going on that she's never seen, etc....she's resolved to road trip to a different locale each month. We started out on Sunday the 7th with a trip to a glassblowing place in Millville, then heading down the 55 freeway to the Delaware Bay. Which, as you can tell from her hair, was quite windblown.

First shot, alternate take.

The spot where we parked and poked around was deserted, peaceful, serene...and really blue.

Um....

A cluster of muscle shells attached to the shoreline rocks. There must've been thousands of them. Thank god I had shoes on.

Ah yes, so here's the attraction that we drove down the freeway for...a lighthouse that wasn't nearly as impressive as we'd hoped, and was closed for the season to boot. Which we kind of expected. But we also hoped it would look more like a lighthouse, less like somebody's house.

Undeterred, we worked with what we got. Here, M.J. shoots pics of the weirdly clustered grass island thingers while East Point (a total misnomer, as the Delaware Bay is on Jersey's west side) shines in the background.

iamalibrarian2's birthday. It was a surprise party. She had no idea. Far as I can tell, she just thought she and her boyfriend were stopping off en route to see the Psychedelic Furs.

From left, Kate and Thea chatting, Lisa keeping a Lager company, Bob laughing, Greg pondering something, Chris amusedly taking a picture and Mr. Wilson surveying the scene.

The obligatory cake shot.

The obligatory candle shot. Actually, I kind of dig this one, since Chris' flash was going off at the same time as my shutter...so I got the full flash effects, but indirectly, so there's none of the washout or red eye issues.

M.J. does a silly dive-thing, Maureen laughs.

Thea, who I don't get to see nearly as often as I'd like to, departs.

pattae working the cute.

Maureen (whose British-y haircut totally rocks) hangs with finkibo and her one-year-old niece, Noelle.

Noelle is less than social and Maureen totally flips her off.

Cindy and Chris depart, actually headed to the Psychedelic Furs this time...

Knowing I wanted to somehow preserve the asurbly large number of film cansiters I acumulated last year for posterity, I tried a number of different approaches to illustrate this entry. First, I spilled them on my negative binder.

Unimpressed, I tried laying among them. But I didn't like how I looked in profile...

So I tried the front. This one was okay, but my eyes are all baggy. Probably from the sleep depravation + drinking.

Not unlike the shot I wound up choosing, except with a giant canister in the foreground. I kind of liked that, and it was a tough call, but the deciding factor was I looked too much like I'm making out with the film in the above shot.

Lastly, I tried arranging them circularly. But it wound up kinda boring and my face was hurting. I gave up, threw them out and went with the one you saw.
