UST Overload
I watched Angel....I think it's 1x06 today....the ep entitled "I Will Remember You". SPOILERS AHEAD (u know, in case there were two ppl alive in 2010 who have never seen Angel). Basically, Angel is wildly, deeply in love with Buffy but since he's the victim of a curse, if he sleeps with her, he reverts to 100% evil & starts killing ppl. So the Buffy/Angel solution was for Angel to move away from Sunnydale and live in LA to avoid the temptation. Except while in LA, Doyle (Hi cutie! I LOVE ur accent Doyle...& ur eyes. Plz stop pining after Cordy & give me a call k?) has a vision of Buffy fighting some bad guys & not doing well so Angel goes to Sunnydale to help her survive the fight. Buffy, apparently, can feel Angel's presence even if she can't see him so she's pissed he came to Sunnydale & didn't at least stop in to say hi (he chose to stay in the shadows while helping her win her battle). She drops in to pick a bone with Angel aaaaaaaaaaaannnd to avoid exhaustive recapping, Angel turns mortal, he & Buffy can FINALLY be together, they talk & giggle & laugh & make love & sleep & eat & confess undying love & promises to make it work. It's all very adorable & I love nothing more than laughing & watching romance unfold sucessfully so I'm happy for them, especially Angel, who's basically in perpetual pain from not being able to be with the Love of His Life. And ummm, I hate watching ppl I like in pain. So yaays on the RST.
Too good to be true right? Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaapaerntly a mortal Angel will get his ass kicked in fights that he used to be able to win back when he had his powers. And since he needed Buffy's help to defeat whatever the thing is called that he went to fight, & since the thing said killing it was not a true victory since it had many friends who would be back to usher in (cue swelling creepy orchestral music)The End of Days, Angel decides now is a really, really bad time for him to be mortal. He says he loves Buffy too much to not be able to fight alongside her when that time comes, should she need him to. And he has a point ok, cuz he would be a liability...she would have to fight Evil AND make sure he was safe all at once. So Angel asks the Oracles to return him to his former state so he can effectively battle evil once more & help Buffy if she needs it. They agree but, cuz his life wasn't already hard enuf, they will allow him to go back in time so he can kill The Thing before he becomes mortal but the only person on earth who will be privy to the fact that he & Buffy had several hours of happy togetherness will be Angel. And if he chooses, he can just do what he did b4, & get to be mortal & re-live that whole happytiems with Buffy. So, ur asking a man who is in love to deliberately set his feet on a path that will A. piss of his One True Love and B. Make what was the happiest period of his life basically a one man delusion.
Let's recap kiddies: Angel & Buffy pine for each other but can't be together on account of a handy curse. Buffy needs help in a fight which Angel stealthily gives. Buffy gets pissed & comes to LA to tell him so. Angel gets to be mortal, Angel & Buffy get to have coupletiems & happytiems, Angel realises that to be mortal is to endanger Buffy, Angel takes the high road & asks for his mortality to be revoked, Angel is the only one who knows abt the happytiems & must go back in time & actively CHOOSE a different path so that he can retain his powers & protect Buffy should she ever need it, Buffy is oblivious to the happytiems & leaves pissed at Angel with no knowledge of how it felt to be able to be with him.
Now, really? Wouldn't it have been easier to stake Angel thru the heart? cuz that is waaaaaaaaayyyy too much pain for one person to bear. And that brings me to the realisation that I don't have a single ship that is normal & healthy. Observe:
Angel: A wonderful guy really, with a big, noble heart who is wildly in love with a girl whom he can not go near for fear he will give in to temptation sleep with her, trigger the curse & go on a killing spree. Really? Really guys? Couldn't we just have gone with "Angel, it's not u it's me"?
Bones: An awesome guy, in the person of Seeley Booth is wildly in love with his partner Temperance Brennan who is wildly in love with him. She however has decided that she is not the kind of woman he deserves & implores him to go find a woman worthy of him. We know, God knows, furry little New Zealand lambs know (ok I borrowed that phrase from a Bones fic but I've been reading too many of them to know which one exactly) that that will be an EPIC fail cuz those two kids fit together like a lock & key. In the meantime, we r subject to all of their r'ship angst. Joy.
Castle: Kate & Rick have the most adorable little flirtation thingy going on. Really. And then she gets a boyfriend which leads Rick to the cutest litle fits of jealousy & attempted one upmanship. And then Esposito tells Kate point blank that no, Castle isn't here in the precinct for "research" he's here cuz he likes you. And Kate dumps her bf & is gonna tell Castle except she took too long & now Castle is goin on vacay with his ex. Really, guys? That's really where u want to end the season? Ur gonna play me like that?
Hawthorne: Tom & Christina have been friends for years. Christina is recovering from the loss of her husband so Tom bides his time. Tom declares his love & proposes. Christina like a crackhead turns him down. Then she freaks out abt his upcoming surgery so much she collapses and doesn't tell him, so he thinks she just chose to not take him to his surgery like she said she would & like he explicitly told her he needed her to ("need" as in "baby I'm terrified & I love u plz don't make me go into the OR by myself" not as in " I need a ride"). She eventually makes it to his hospital room but sees another Dr. chick from their hospital with him, gets jealous & leaves, again without telling him. Really, if he starts dating the new Dr. chick at this point, I really can't blame him.
Merlin: Merlin is an absolute sweetheart. He is kind, a true friend, noble, not one to back down from hardship, a man of his word, humble, loyal, my future husband. He is forever saving Crown Prince Arthur's life & either getting in trouble for it or getting no recognition for it all. He meets Freya & falls in love with her, which is possibly the sweetest thing I have ever witnessed. She's happy, he's happy, I'm happy, so of course she's cursed to change into a jaguar looking thing & kill every day at midnight, gets mortally wounded & Merlin only has enough time with her to bring her to a lake (cuz she grew up near one & he's doing one last sweet thing for her before she dies. See? He should totally father my offspring) before she dies & he has to place her in a boat & light it afire. Btw, even if ur not a Merlin fan u should watch that boat scene with Merlin & Freya. Quite possibly the saddest moment in TV history. And brilliant acting from Colin Morgan (call me, Colin. Really. I love ur accent. And what I've seen of ur character). Also, Arthur is wildly in love with Gwen but he can't be with her cuz he's Crown Prince of Camelot & she is just a handmaiden. So I obviously need some new TV Shows where ppl follow the usual course of action: boy meets girl, boy & girl fall in love, boy & girl get married, boy & girl start a family, boy & girl work very hard at having a long & happy marriage & make me happy in the process. To be fair, Bones did give me Hodgela this year, & those kids soooooooooooo needed to be together & I practically jumped while they were getting married, especially since I didn't see it coming. And Cam got a boyfriend too & I couldn't stop grinning over that either so Bones can get some cool points for RST there. But really, Showrunners need to ease up on the UST.

Ok ok ok. To be fair I like/love these shows for a reason. For example, the Bones cast? Is TALENTED. How TJ, David & Emily do not have Emmys remains a mystery to me. Don't even get me started on Colin from Merlin. And David as Angel? Oh my. So the fandoms I'm part of r by and large very good & these kids have serious acting chops & I will never leave them even tho they tend to take UST to a whole new level (possibly with the aid of steroids). And yes, Bones & Merlin at least I know will eventually work out cuz Hart keeps telling us that & cuz Arthurian legend has already been written so Arthur will make Gwen his Queen. So if ur listening Shows I'm not leaving u ok? Momma still loves u *hugs*.
