I've had a really nice evening out and I intended to come in and update about Christmas, but the first thing I saw when I walked in was one of my mice lying on her side on the bottom of the tank, almost dead. I will take her to the vet to be euthanised tomorrow morning if she is still alive then. She has two huge tumours, which the vet told me last week are caused by breast cancer. They are not treatable. I would never keep an animal alive if it was suffering, but she has been behaving normally (eating, drinking, etc.) until now. I've had a lot of rescued animals, and most of the rodents have died of various cancers. Many people are not aware that pet rats and mice are bred from lab animals, so they are bred to get various forms of cancer and other illnesses. I am not in any state to express myself eloquently about this right now, so all I can say is that the anger and sadness of this situation makes me feel sick.
UNCAGEDAnimal experimentation involves the incarceration of animals - which itself causes intense psychological distress - who are then poisoned, mutilated, given diseases and killed. It is arguably the most severe form of systematic violence in the modern world. Other terms for animal experimentation include 'vivisection', 'animal testing', and 'animal research'.
