No, must switch to tourist first.
In other words, Roger who was currently on Working Holiday as I was, was going for a direct switch to Working without having to worry about leaving the country as he can easily get the extension.
Whereas lil ol me, had to cancel her WH visa initially (I went to Singapore for 2 days at end of Sep) and come back as a tourist.
Trust me, dealing with red tape without a tourokusho (you give that up at Narita Airport when you leave), was tons of fun, not.
Being on a tourist visa also meant that I had only 3 months to get my visa switched otherwise you have to leave again and to try to come back to Japan twice in a row as a ‘tourist’ will raise quite a few eyebrows at the immigration queue.
Sadly for me, having been screwed around with my start date meant that I had to forgo my return London ticket, meaning that I had to wait for my degree to be posted over.
I got this about mid Oct and so the trip to the office was decided for today.
One month down, two to go.
Now here’s the next fun part.
Having ‘lost’ a return ticket back home, meant that if my visa doesn’t come in time, I gotta go home and wait for it there.
Meaning I gotta buy another plane ticket…
My visa expires on the 30th Dec.
Yeah… totally the absolute best time of the year to go travelling, eh…
And it gets even better than this, oh no Life wasn’t finished screwing me over just yet.
After telling Mayumi my predicament today, she advised that I buy this ticket, since the worst case would be end of Dec comes and if my visa doesn’t make it in time then to try to hop on a plane around then would be near impossible or twice as expensive ^^;
However…
If the certificate for the visa comes in time, then the time needed to convert it into my visa (about 1 week) means that I cannot leave the country. Nor can I take the certificate to London with me and convert it over there.
Meaning… that for the second time in 2 months, I’d have to forgo my plane tickets to London.
Me: 0 - 900 : Wasted money
That being approximately how much I’ll out of pocket just for the process of trying to stay here for another year given the current situation, I haven’t bought the ticket just yet so the price could go higher…
*sighs*
As a friend told me when she heard and saw all the doors of possible paths for an okay soultion out of this slam in my face:
“So… you’re totally screwed.”
Me: Yep, just about sums it up perfectly.
So, a plane ticket I must buy and buy fairly quickly before the prices continue to rise even more than they are already for a possible New Year’s flight back home that I may not even be able to take.
Fun, fun times…
