I had to get a new car. My old Taurus, the one I've had for about 8 years, has been having transmission problems for over a year now. Last night it tried to strand me in Albuquerque. Luckily I coaxed it into working again around 11 or midnight so I could get back home to Santa Fe. I haven't tried it today, but it's possible that may have been its last ride.

I bought my new car today. One of my teacher friends had a car she needed to sell quickly so she sold it to me for $500. It's old and small, older and smaller than I was initially wanting to get, but it was available immediately, for a price I could afford, and from somebody I trust. It just kind of fell into my lap, I only heard about it yesterday afternoon and went for the test drive right before I went down to Albuquerque. The timing couldn't have been more perfect.

So now I have a 92 Ford Festiva. It's a 92, even older than my Taurus, but has about half the miles on it and gets 10 mpg better, which will help considering I've been putting hundreds of miles a week on it driving back and forth to Albuquerque so much.

After a month or two when I've decided that my new car is in fact reliable enough to get me around, I'll see if I can coax my Taurus into one more drive to wherever she ends up, the junkyard perhaps. It's so sad to think I'll have to take her to the junkyard after all these years.
