Just saw the news that FOX has cancelled Terra Nova. Apparently they're going to shop around to other networks and for the sake of its fans, I hope they ship it over to FX or Sci-Fi because it seemed like an enjoyable show. I also saw the news on House, which delighted me because they really screwed that pooch several seasons ago.
A few months back when the president of Fox said something about losing money on Fringe, someone postulated there was hope for Fringe if they cancelled House and Terra Nova. Now I'm hearing they might get a "Chuck" deal with a final 15 episode season.
It's frustrating to be a fan of shows that are well written and under appreciated because of the genre they happen to fall into. Chuck was one of the best shows ever to see a television screen, but because it didn't latch onto any specific genre (Science fiction? Comedy? Spy drama? Romance?) it couldn't find a larger Nielsen audience.
What's really frustrating is that as much as they mention 3+ Live DVR ratings (Fringe ratings go up about 70% when included) and website streams, it still seems to come down to the outdated Nielsen numbers. 1 Box for every million people in America is supposed to be representative? And how are we not on a global scale already with universal release dates?
Every couple years I tell myself I'm giving up on new shows and then I find myself tuning into a few new ones and end up watching with dread because I love the shows so much, but know that for every renewal (Once Upon a Time), I might lose one (possibly, The Finder.) The only good news this season seems to be that the Nielsen viewers seem to be getting a wee tired of America Idol.
