Well, I've had a fairly productive week. We've been expecting an inspection so I spent some extra time at work doing some painting and cleaning up. The inspection never came, but we're ready for it ;p And it's nice to have the store look a bit more organized.
Also looking more organized is my apartment. Got the call that my mattress would likely be delivered on Saturday, so I spent my last weekend (Thursday and Friday) cleaning up so that it'd be easier to swap out one bed for the other. Getting the mattress into the apartment went a lot more smoothly than expected, also. So, it took 5 weeks, but we finally got the new bed. The first notable feature is that it's a *lot* taller. The old bed was a thin memory foam mattress and even with the bed frame came up only about to me knee. The new, thicker mattress includes a pillow top and comes up to my waist. I've had beds that tall before, but with the frame so small on this one, it feels like we've just stacked up a whole bunch of mattresses and sleep atop them. However, it is a vast improvement over the last one. I can feel my spine realigning just lying on it. I almost warned the guy working Sunday morning that I could easily be late that morning because I wouldn't want to get out of it... and though I have been late for work this week, each day it really has been a struggle to get up. My neck has been bothering me for the past 5 weeks, and I don't think it's a coincidence that it's cleared up once I started sleeping on the new bed. For the last few days I've been relaxing after work by sprawling out and lighting some sandalwood incense.
I'm hoping this productivity continues into this weekend. Now that I don't have to worry about checking in at the store or preparing for a mattress delivery, I can focus on more leisurely things. Should get back into art and writing. It's been suggested that I force myself to draw a practice sketch every day, and I actually kinda like that idea to at least get the ball rolling.
Also, our terrible cashier's days are numbered. Well, actually, I've been saying that for a while now, but now it's official. He lost somewhere between $30 and $60 spread out over 3 or 4 days in the past week, so he's being given the ultimatum that if he's short like that again he'll lose his job. We're already starting to collect applications. Honestly, over the two days that I won't be at the store, I suspect he'll be fired by the time I get back. My plan B is to start working 10 hour days over the weekend again and cut back to 6 hours for a pair of days during the week to make up for it. I really try to get along with everybody, but I've already spent a lot of time writing about how baffling his complete absence of a work ethic is to me. Honestly, I don't think he'll even care. He gloats about how his parents pay for his gas/car/food and that he pretty much just uses his post-rent paycheck to buy stuff on iTunes and go to McDonalds.
