To audition or not to audition - you decide

So my darling boyfriend posted a poll
This poll has to do with me auditioning for the YouTube symphony
I want your opinions (those of you that haven't voted yet - unless of course those who have voted just want to comment about why they voted yes...) - should I or shouldn't I?
And emmasdad  should be uploading a video of me playing soon - because I ( Read more... )

Of course you should audition. *I've* heard you play and I think you rock. :)

Because I haven't perfected the piece and I haven't pulled out the piece for the second video yet.
Nothing happens, I just get a little weird about my music. If I make it I freak out wondering what everyone was thinking putting me in a position like that. If I don't make it I get really nasty on myself about what a hack I am. (There's history to why I'm like that which I won't go into right now).
Then there's the whole having my face out on the world wide web, which kind of freaks me out.

you don't think anyone else entering is maybe a hack?

What can it hurt? Even if you weren't very good, why not do it for the expierience.

I guess I'd like to hear why you think you do or don't want to do it. If you think your not good enough.. leave that for the judges to decide. If you think even if you won you wouldn't be able to go, then you probably shouldn't enter. If you think you'd hate doing it, then don't do it. If you think it would be the most amazing thing, but you'd feel defeated if you didn't win, then who knows...

Actually, a lot of my "I'm not good enough" comes from my past. I played professionally when I lived and was a music performance major in California. Then I got Carpel Tunnel combined with CMT (it's a nerve disease that runs in our family). The idiots at Mayo said I'd never play again and if I didn't stop my hands would freeze up (kind of like severe arthritis ( ... )

Then I say go for it... it might help get over some of that stuff. The judges will decide if you are good enough. And you may get an amazing life experience out of it.

Let's see, Miss "I'm always getting myself into things that I volunteer for". I would say that your music is you. You know you are good. You doubt some of yourself because any respectful talented person does exactly that, they doubt. Now, You have the experience, you have the talent, you have the drive, you have places to stay at in NYC!!! I would seriously submit my audition asap.

Don't pass go, forget the $200 on the board, it's opportunity knocking on the door.

That works, I'm in! *grin*
Now then, you have to do 2 videos - the 1st is the easy one (ok, at least the horn part is easy) the 2nd one they give you the choice of a couple of pieces - all of the horn pieces have to be transposed! *grumbles*
Brahams in D switching to Eb Switching to B natural (who the hell writes in B natural!!!! ARG!)
Mozart in Eb
Wagner in C

Well, for English Horn, I can do New World for the second one, which I already know. They say for the second one "one or two" of the recommended pieces, but they only have one actual E Horn piece in their recommended pieces, the others are oboe pieces (that I don't know). I could do it on oboe instead or also.

Hmmm... and I don't know if you can audition for both.
I think you should do oboe, but that's just me. And I only say that because, doesn't your English Horn have a note or two that don't speak very easily? It would suck to have that happen during the video and have to redo it. On the other hand, at least if you're videotaping it you CAN redo it. Hmmm...
