A local used/new (mostly used) is going out of business. I thought it'd be fun to catalogue the random books I get there?? Things are currently 40% off.
Purchased last evening:
A College of Magics by Caroline Stevermer
Ancient Light by Mary Gentle
Golden Witchbreed by Mary Gentle
The Law of Becoming (Jaran #4) by Kate Elliott
Out by Natsuo Kirino
Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison
Total was about $12.
They have lots of randomass fantasy, so if anyone has favorites, lmk.
Same for books by Sherri Tepper, C.J. Cherryh, or Toni Morrison.
This place also has a lot of current fiction that I identify as like, "Oprah's book club genre." So basically if you have some random recs, lmk.
They plan to stay open until their lease ends on November 30th, but judging by how picked over things were last night, that would really impress me. The clerk did say there were at least 1,000 books in the back room that still needed to be brought out, though, so it's definitely something I'll be visiting repeatedly.
I always get sad when bookstores go out of business. The shelves get picked over so quickly that the employees don't have the time properly arrange the books.
When Borders went out of business, I was experiencing lots of reflux pain. I used to sometimes go there just to make sure the manga was alphabetized, and to face-out books so that the shelves still looked full.
I ended up doing the same thing last evening in the sf/f section, ^^;;
The Boyfriend and I visited this location of Frugal Muse much more frequently than their other location (which is bigger). It's in the same little parking lot/shopping center as our favorite Chinese buffet in town. Their YA & fantasy sections have always been impressive, their manga not so much.
