Skip Beat, Kare Kano, Princess Jellyfish, Sasameki Koto, Aoi Hana...
Rideback might not be cheerful enough, neither might Michiko e Hatchin.

Ooooh, ooh!
I had started Kare Kano, but you've reminded me that I never finished it. I think I <3 the anime way more than the manga.
For some reason, I always associate Skip Beat with Yuu Watase, but it's totally not hers. The set-up sounds awesome.
Sasameki Koto and Aoi Hana sound adorable?!
I'll keep the "might not be cheerful enough" ones in mind for later.

Oh also I forgot Taishou Yakyuu Musume!

LOL no :D
It totally is awesome :D there's a reason it came first in the list.
Aoi Hana is a little bit more on the contemplative/bittersweet spectrum than Sasameki Koto which is indeed adorable and very funny :)

I love that series to death but it kinda fails as far as having a female protagonist go.

Although!
I've seen the first two or three episodes, and I like the character of his grandmother lots and lots.
