Angel: through "Not Fade Away," aka, LAST EPISODE EVAR, :[

Jul 01, 2008 22:41

Fucking Blogger.com isn't working for me again. And my laptop was being a good boy earlier today! Still not sure what's wrong with it, but it was functional for a while there.

WTF, I am sad to see this show done! I would really love to own season 5 on DVD. It still blows my mind that I loved this season so much, considering my love/hate relationship with the other four seasons of the show. Are the other four seasons worth it? MY DEVOTION TO WESLEY SAYS YES.

Anyway.

Power Play
WTF, Angel in bed with that girl! He must have gone down on her, whoa. Why even introduce this girl this late in the game? I guess it's nice to know Angel moved on, but....wtf.

It's interesting that Spike and Illyria are buddies, and unfortunate we didn't get to see that play out more.

WTF, Angel killed Fred?! This can't really be Angel, can it? Wesley looks murderous. GOOD. HE IS HOTTER THAT WAY. Why would Angel still care about Nina? None of this makes any sense.

Oh my God, please tell me that Angel didn't kill Fred. I want this series to end with all the guys killing Angel.

Wesley wants to "bring him back"? "He'd do the same for us." Bullshit. Wesley had better be saying that crap as a ruse, in order to kill Angel.

OMG, Wesley cocking the shotgun at Angel! HE IS SO SEXY. "I'm in." HE IS SO SEXY. I HAVE NO OTHER COHERENT THOUGHTS.

Not Fade Away
Shanshu prophecy. Wow, he signs it away. Okay, I feel a little bad for having doubted Angel. Oh no! Now my Buffy/Angel dream can't come true! (Angel becomes human just in time for Buffy to catch up to him in age, and they have cute, witty/angsty babies)

I love seeing how everyone spends their last day, especially Wesley. I feel like I would be like Wesley - I wouldn't want anything, everything would be meaningless anyway.

OMG SPIKE POETRY SLAM! I LOVE THIS SHOW.

How did Angel get to the coffee shop in the daytime?

HARMONY, YOU SLUT. OF COURSE, THE SHOW TAKES THE LAST FEMALE CHARACTER AND MAKES HER A BETRAYING SLUT.

WTF is up with Lorne saying he won't do anything else ever again??

ILLYRIA IS SO BADASS.

YAY, CONNOR! (Words I never thought I'd type.)

PICK AXE TO THE FOREHEAD, GO GUNN! THAT WAS WESLEY-WORTHY, AND I CAN THINK OF NO HIGHER COMPLIMENT.

WTF, LORNE?! OH MY GOD! WOW! I JUST....WOW. Holy shit, I did not see that coming at all. That was totally sweet.

WESLEY!! NOW WITH MAGIC! GO WESLEY! OMG! It's Fred! He said he loved her! Oh, my God!

OH NO!!!! HE DIED! I CRY FOREVER. Well, I probably would have cried if I hadn't been spoiled for it.

GO ILLYRIA! Little girl, my ass.

LOL Angel: "Can you pick out the one word there you probably shouldn't have said?"

Illyria: "I wish to do more violence."

I'm kind of sad that the story continues in the comic series Angel: After the Fall, I guess? The ending to this show was just so fabulous and so fitting, and in my mind, Spike, Angel, Illyria, and Gunn all die there in that alley, in the rain.

I would like to say that I don't mind Wesley's dying. That poor fucker was suffering so much that it seems like a huge relief, you know? I think the Illyria/Fred/goodbye stuff could have been scripted a bit more poignantly, but maybe that's just me.

Is it weird that this show is so Catholic to me, in terms of broad themes? Life is a shithole, and you suffer a lot, and then you die. But along the way, you do your best to help every person you meet, because that's what's right. Not to win someone's love, not because you were Chosen to do it. Not because you're promised humanity (I loved that Angel had to sign away the Shanshu prophecy). Because it's what people are supposed to do, end of story. And being the good guy doesn't necessarily buy you the happy ending. God, look at Wesley. Being the good guy sucks. It's really hard. And yet, in the end, every single character picks up their weapon and faces the army of dark and unimaginable things. They fight.

In one of the featurette thingies, Alexis Denisof refers to it as the agony of the battle that is life. INDEED.

SPEAKING OF FEATURETTES. Watching Amy Acker break into giggles and Alexis Denisof being....ridiculous....made my life.

I hate that Joss Whedon and cast members keep making references to Shakespeare readings at Whedon's home. How much would I KILL for recordings of those?! They should sell them! People would buy them!

Does anybody know where I could *ahem* things such as the song's opening theme? Or Lindsey's "L.A. Song"? Or any of Lorne's karaoke songs?

I'm not quite sure what to do with myself, now that I've finished both shows. I feel strange, but extremely glad that I watched them. Everyone should watch Buffy and Angel! I've already started the first disc of Arrested Development, and intend to continue. Lighthearted is a nice follow-up to dumptrucks of angst, I think. I'd also like to rewatch Firefly this summer; I've only seen it once, and it was a couple of years ago. PLUS, this time I can blog about it. :D
