I know that I've been working on watching Buffy/Angel for almost a year now, but I don't think I've ever been this obsessed about it, thinking about it constantly all day long (even having a dream about it!) until this week. I blame the musical, mostly, I think. I get obsessive when I find a favorite new song, and listen to it repeatedly for hours. Thus, it is stuck in my head all day long. And with this, it isn't just one song, but eight. More than anything else, though, I think it's the place Buffy's at right now: full of apathy and depression, and yeah - shockingly a person with depression would identify strongly with it, I know. I'm trying to listen to other music to make the Buffy stuff go away, at least for a while.
Anyway. There were things I wanted to say.
In "Lullaby," I lol'ed at Wesley's encouragement to Darla: "The trick is to breathe...." And everyone slowly turns to stare at Wesley until Darla says, "I DON'T BREATHE." It took me a minute to figure out what was wrong with what he said, too! I guess everyone freaks out under pressure.
How do people feel about Darla staking herself, and the baby remaining behind? I know she was 9 months pregnant, but to me that's a pretty clear statement that there were 2 separate and distinct lives there. Does this bother people who are pro-choice? Does it make a difference that Darla was about to give birth? (I'm assuming it does, but I'm pro-life so I'm not that great at guessing what other people believe) What if she had staked herself when she was 3 months pregnant, and a baby was left behind? Would it be offensive?
Why does Fred stay in the alley with Angel when the baby is born? Everyone else - Cordelia, Wesley, Gunn, Lorne - have all known Angel longer than she has. She was almost crying, too. I mean, I like Fred a lot as a character. It just seemed kind of out of place to me that she stayed with Angel, out of everyone. ALSO, Holtz is pretty bad-ass. SETTING YOUR VAMPIRE-BUT-STILL-SWEET-CHILD ON FIRE ON PURPOSE IS HARDCORE.
Also, seriously: What happened to Kate Lockheart? I feel like I missed an episode or something. I liked her a lot! She's not a cop, so she's just gone? I know she went to Law & Order, but I figured there'd be a better kind of send-off than that.
Also! At some point in season 2 of Angel, Angel says that Darla never loved him because she didn't have a soul. I fully believe in Spike's love for Buffy, but I still can't wrap my head around loving someone without having a soul. He doesn't even have a beating heart! Is this just one of those logical fallacies I have to accept? Usually I'm good at the hand-waving, but this one just bothers me a lot.
I didn't make much progress today because I watched Joss Whedon's commentary for "Once More With Feeling," and the ending to Tabula Rasa about 10 times because OMG, Spike and Buffy kiss!
