To anyone who is not on FB - yes, I was in that 9.0 earthquake that hit Japan last week; I was only about 50 miles from the epicenter. But I'm alive and alright and not dying of radiation poisoning! I evacuated my area, less from nuclear fears than not wanting to be a burden on my town when they don't have enough food etc as it is. I wrote up a long (8 pages thus far) account of the epicness of the days since the quake, but as it's on my laptop and I can't get internet on it for now, that will have to wait. Suffice to say that there were several days with no electricity or heat or cell phone service or information about what happened to any other communities hit by the quake, followed by the parents of the other ALTs in town freaking out at us telling us to GET OUT before we got hit by major radiation. I was invited to stay with friends on Okinawa (<3 Martha and Nathan!), so that's where I am. A trip that normally takes 5 hours max took me THREE DAYS, but I made it down here safe. Hopefully the reactors in Fukushima won't explode, and people will start being able to get shipments of food and gas etc into my area soon so I can go home! In the meantime though, I'll be relaxing on Okinawa with some awesome people and possibly the most adorable beatboxing baby EVAR!
Love to all!
