Marketing Research

The course will focus on the relationships between Innovation, Design and Marketing. We will address issues of marketing, technology, and cultural awareness for the purpose of having an understanding of Innovation, Marketing and Design. Problem identification is an often overlooked critical success factor in business and in design;   those who can correctly and appropriately define problems are better able to apply innovative concepts and skills to address the multi-dimensional nature of today’s complex problems. Design problems and solutions will be examined very dynamically using a holistic approach to defining the human experience, including cultural, technological, economic, social, and other attributes.

In my first Graphic Design class my professor suggested that I take a marketing class. Well the only marketing class offered (at the time) was the business class that had pre-requirements of economics and accounting. I tried micro-economics and got a C, so that wasn't going to work out so well. Now, there is this class. It will probably be a lot of work and I'm sure I'm not going to enjoy getting in front of the class to present, but so far the class seems interesting. My first assignment however, requires your help! So here it is:

What company comes to mind when you think of a company that has done a good job marketing to their customers? Why?

What company comes to mind when you think of a company that has done a bad job marketing to their customers? Why?

What do I mean by marketing, you ask? Marketing is making a consumer believe that they have to have or want to have a product. For example: Apple has done an EXCELLENT job marketing the iPod. Almost every person age 10-30 thinks that they have to have an iPod. Not to mention that just wearing the white ear buds is a status symbol among people my age.

My answers to the questions above:

Good: Subway - Americans want to lose weight and they don't want to spend a lot of money. They also want to have a good amount of food and they want it to be fast.

Bad: I haven't really thought of one, I'll get back to you on this one.

If you are going to answer these questions, I ask that you include your age and sex for demographic purposes. Ex.

21, F

Good:
Bad:

Thanks a bunch!!!
