Let's get this done and over with.
Pre-Play
I watched the anime so I could know the story and ended up REALLY like the anime. BUT, the story they covered in the stage is probably one of my least favourite. But I did go in with such high expectations cos Shuuto is in it and I knew they were gunna use project mapping and it was a great cast and it just looked so good,
BUT then it started.
The Play
*My seat from row 15.
I don't know where to start with this train wreck... The introduction was fine and the characters themselves were great but... OKAY! I know where to start. So I went to Tina and the first thing that shocked us what the fact that there was no break and (more importantly) it was only 90 minutes long! .... think that through... 90 minutes! ONLY 90 MINUTES FOR A STAGE?!?!?! That's like going to the cinema to watch a 60 MINUTE movie. That's how much it shocked me and that's how SHORT a 90 minute stage is in comparison. So already I was dispapointed and worried. The arc they covered is like 40 episodes long and SO much happens so I was worried 'they ain't gunna fit it all in in 90 minutes!' so yes. Unfortunately the story DID draw the short straw. A LOT was cut out. A LOT. Which leads to the battles.
The longest battle was between Lyon and Racer which is weird cos their battle is all of 2 episodes. And they brushed over 'how Lyon suruvived' completely which I imagine would've confused those that hadn't seen the anime. Lyon/Racer battle is the first battle in the arc and I've just said it was 'the longest battle' so yet again unfortunately all the other battles are completely sped up and finished in like 5 minutes! EVEN the big battle at the end! It's like 2 minutes long! WTF?!
Another point; this wasn't friendly to non-anime fans. I've had a few people, who went cos they're fans of the actors, but had never seen Fairy Tail and were COMPLETELY confused. They had no idea who was with who and what past (especially Erza and Jellal) people had which is a shame.
On the other hand: others (including me) who have watched and enjoy Fairy Tail were disappointed by this stage too. Glad I'm not alone.
The story was very LUCY centric too which is weird cos it's supposed to be more about Erza and Jellal right?! But Jellal got like no screen time.
And the BIGGEST thing that pissed me off to no end: why the FUCK did the girls randomly sing like three times?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! shgjfsdhugihsighsdohgishgjsdghsfkjghjkdfhgjkdhfkjghdkjf SERIOUSLY!?!?!??#$>husfhguihuighdfihgi oh my FUCKING god. Is this a musical? NO! Was it needed? NO! Did it make me hate the actresses? Not hate but I definitely dislike them MORE now. I don't... I DON'T understand WHY they fucking put songs in. NOT NEEDED! It's 90 minute fucking play! You don't have FUCKING TIME to sing for 3 FUCKING minutes 3 times! Oh my god I can't...
And don't get me started on the actress that plays Erza. I cannot stand her and never have!
Didn't like Lucy's actress either.
SONGS!!!?!?!?!?!
*takes a deep breath*
They did the thing!!
Now the positives!
1. The projection mapping! It was really cool how they used it - but it was distracting when the entire screen would come down over the stage and the actors but I can forgive it cos it looked kool!
2. Shuuto as Natsu! He was the perfect Natsu <3 seriously Shuuto IS Natsu <3 so much energy and he did the travel sickness very well! xD
3. Shirtless Matachan and Ozawa Ren was ALWAYS welcome <3
4. They switched on lights in their hand when they were doing magic - it's so simple but it helped make the world a bit more real.
5. Shuuto's 'fire' skills. The crowded WOO'd at the end during the applauses when he did it xD
6. Robotic Happy and Carla <3 It was so cute that they were remote controlled and it was cute whenever the picked them up and stuff ^_^
7. Ono Kento - while his part was small (cries). He was a great Hibiki! I originally thought he was playing Leo! So I was a little disappointed when I figured out I was wrong but he did good!
8. Ozawa playing double roles. He played both Lyon and Leo which I think is awesome xD all the other double roles haven't been confirmed though.
9. The comedy hit pretty well which was good! So I could at least enjoy it that way!
I think that's all the positives I got. Sorry it was so negative but I was disappointed ='[ but I'm interested in how well it does in Shanghai next month...
---
Overall: I was so disappointed. It was too short and the actresses and just so many little things I didn't like about this stage. There were a few positives (Shuuto is the perfect Natsu) but.... ugh....
Rating: 5/10 < one for porjection mapping, one for the shirtlessness and comedy, and three for Shuut, Matachan and Ono.
