Hakuouki SSL: The Movie Review!

Mar 04, 2016 14:00

I watched this... February 11th? I think xD It's been so long but I still remember the movie! But let's get onto the review!
My review of the dorama can be found here.

First things first; they spent a lot of time in the beginning reminding us of what had happened - this also happened in Aragawa Under the Bridge, Kurosaki-kun and Nobunaga Concerto -__- PLEASE studios can you STOP wasting what little time Japanese movies ALREADY have on reminders? Just get to the point/start!
I really fell for Okita in the movie. I just love how he's always near Yukimura and is so sweet and takes pics of her and he's just allround really nice! He'd be my pick out of them all. Except his hair. His sideburns need a hair cut xD
I also love how he and Heisuke were so forward with their love for her as well as how Hajime is so quiet and doesn't realise he likes her and when he does it's so cute xD
BUT I still don't see what's so good about her. (Which is the same as my review for the dorama!)
This falls into the very common 'everyone wants the girl even though she's ultimately boring, uninteresting and has no redeeming or even likeable point about her except for the fact she's the only girl in the vicinity' genre. They only like her cos she's the only girl at the school! Cos she's the only one they can get! End of. BUT if we ignore that 'non-realistic' point, the situation itself is every girl's dream - right? xD
Another thing I want to touch on is: Did I miss something when it came to the necklace? Maybe my mind is fuzzy but it definitely felt like the movie assumed that we knew who the necklakce was off. Did I miss something in the dorama or was the part of the information poorly communicated? Cos we got a flashback of her getting the necklace off him at like christmas and I was like 'when did this happen? Why did it happen? What reason does he have to do that?' I as a little confused.
Which brings me to my next point: Channaka's character... he's got resting bitch face the ENTIRE time. HOW can she like him?! He's SO moody, SO unemotional and so fucking... ugh... I hate him. Again, another character with NO redeemingly point, yet she likes him?! The ONLY time he seemed VAGUELY interested was A. in the historical scene he saved her and B. in the present he was looking at how to make a maid costume for her, WHICH could be seen as the most perverted thing on the planet rather than it being romantic... I don't get their relationship nor his character at all...

I'm thinking I need to rewatch the dorama AND the movie once they're all out on DVD... I definitely feel I've missed some details along the way.

This movie definitely had it's funny parts, and I found so sweet that Heisuke was studying hard to try and get first place in the exams, and I love how Hajime was slowly coming to the realisation that he liked her and how shy he is, I also love Okita (I'll stop talking about him).
Also Itou-sensei was definitely the most comedic xD Forgetting to take his books back and then being scalded by the library workers who were students and then smacking his leg on the table xD Love him! I feel like Yukimura's brother got my character development this time too which was nice ^_^ But, Baba had NO where near enough time! Also there was the pink vial of stuff. It always looked like it'd have SOME importance to the movie and then no one ever used it - wtf is it?! And the last negative note is that I felt the ending was predictable: the whole giving everyone chocolate (which I predicted straight away) and then the whole 'give me the necklace back when I graduate' part. But the ending where the boys were arguing among themselves before going back into the school was nice ^_^

AND OMG the two scenes. First one at the beginning when they're arguing in the entrance to the school and then they all 'become late' as the gate closes INCLUDING the teacher xD

The other one is after a fight when the four of them at in the teachers office xD

OOOOOO also when Heisuke had to sit outside on his knees!!! xD

Great moments <3

---

Overall: This movie was a bit of a disappointment but an improvement from the dorama in my opinion. It definitely had it's moments of being funny and sweet and interesting but there was predictability and some unexplained (probably because I have a crappy memory) things that confused me. BUT I will definitely marathon the dorama and the movie (and they did a stage too right? That's getting a DVD right?!) together once it's all out on DVD cos I do overall enjoy these! It's just they ain't the best made or best exceuted thing I've seen.
