Went and saw the New Pornographers last night at the Crystal Ballroom. This is the second time I've seen them; I also went to a show in 2007. I got a really good spot right up against the stage. I'd forgotten my earplugs, though, so I had to buy some; also a bottle of water because they made me throw the iced tea I'd just bought at a convenience store away >:/ (seriously, it was a 1-liter bottle and I'd only drunk like a quarter of it.)
Imaad Wasif was the first opening act (of two), and almost everyone seems to rave about him but he's just too loud for me and I didn't really care for him. He opened up for the Pornos last time I saw them and I didn't like him that much then either.
Second opening band was The Dodos, and I'd never heard of them before but I REALLY liked them pretty much instantly. I actually couldn't remember their name (I'd seen it on the program schedule taped to the counter when buying my water and earplugs, but quickly forgot it) and either they never said it or I just didn't hear because damn those earplugs muffled words to the point where everyone sounded like an adult on Charlie Brown cartoons. I can't remember when I finally found out (again) who they were, but I think it was actually at the merch table after the show. BTW I thought at first there wasn't a merch table, because it wasn't where it usually is, rather a flight or two downstairs. But anyway I got one of the Dodos' CDs, Time To Die, which is excellent.
The Pornos took the stage at around 10:15 at night and played for about two hours, they were awesome (of course). Can't remember the entire setlist but I know they played Twin Cinema, Mass Romantic, Use It, Challengers, The Slow Descent Into Alcoholism, Excecution Day, The Bleeding Heart Show, Jackie Dressed In Cobras, Sing Me Spanish Techno, All The Old Showstoppers, Your Hands (Together) (everyone clapped the beat on that one, my hands were numb at the end), Crash Years, I think Myriad Harbour, and several more that I can't remember or don't know because I don't yet have the CD(s) they're on. I took maybe around 20 pics with my cell phone as I'd forgotten to charge the batteries for my actual camera. I uploaded three to my laptop and then got a text from Verizon saying my balance was low, so the rest are going to have to wait until I put more money on my phone. But here are the first three:
