In the past, I have looked into a local farm about purchasing meat, eggs or milk.
The animals are free ranged, no cruelty to endure, no antibiotics or growth hormones.
It always seemed very expensive and especially now with the economy the way it is....
I had seen video's in the past of how cows are treated in california on these mega "ranches".
Recently I just watched some Peta videos.
It left me thinking:
What the Hell is wrong with people????
Where are these peoples humanity?
Ok... animals kill animals in the wild. They usually are pretty efficient about it and quick. That I can deal with. That is nature.
Some of these videos that showed the slaughter houses and processing plants were just full of sick bastards. There was no respect or thanks to the animal... just a torturous death that was prolonged (ok maybe not with every animal... I'll be nice and give them that much).
The Cherokee is provoked.
I think that when we get back from our trip and I have more time to devote to it, I'm going to look into changing our food up around here as much as I can in this economy anyway. I do have a vegetarian cookbook of like... 10001 recipes.
I'm not going to become a vegan.
I do hope my uncle can get us a deer next year and maybe a turkey. I know as experienced hunters they can make it quick.
We already buy Wild caught salmon.
I'm not giving up eggs and milk when I can buy them from a place that treats the animals humanely.
I guess it all really starts with education about food and the nutrients that are needed in a healthy diet and go from there.
The american diet is way too over processed anyway. I've always tried to do the best I could about that, but it is everywhere....
