“Mommy! Daddy!”

Lacey rolled over, trying to pull the covers over her head after taking a quick peek at the clock. A quarter to five, and she couldn't help but groan. The sun wouldn't even be up for another couple of hours. This was the first Christmas Alessandra was old enough to really understand and get that the earlier you woke up the earlier you could get to the presents, and she was taking full advantage of it. Lacey rolled over just in time for the bed to dip as their daughter jumped onto it.

“Mom! Dad! Come on, sleepy heads,” she said excitedly, bouncing on her knees as she shook her parents. “It's Christmas morning! Those presents aren't going to open themselves.” The five year old pulled the covers off her parents, an grumpy sounding groan coming from her father and an amused chuckle from her mother. Owen reached up and pulled the giggling girl down between them, wrapping an arm around her as he pretended to fall back asleep. “Daddy!” She whined playfully, wiggling in his arms. “Come on Daddy, it's Christmas!”

“It is?” He asked, looking down at her as if he didn't quite believe her. He looked up at Lacey, a playful smirk on his face, “Did you know it was Christmas?”

Lacey shook her head, playing along with Owen's little game. “Nope, had no idea. Despite the tree, the decorations, and the endless baking, it just snuck right up on me.”

“Mom,” Alice gave her mother a look that she knew they were both teasing her. She turned back to her dad, pouting uncannily like her mother.

Owen shook his head, kissing the top of her head, “All right, all right, we're awake. Go wake your siblings, then we'll open presents.” Alice ran off with an exclaimed 'kay', yelling down the hall for her half siblings to wake up. Owen rolled back onto his side, facing Lacey. “Remind me again how we ended up here?”

“Hmmm, do you want the long or the short? The short started when you told me you loved me at that Christmas party six years ago. The long starts a few months before that when you and I met and we both started horribly teasing each other.” She said, bright blue eyes sparkling with laughter.

“Smart ass,” he said, moving in for a morning kiss.

“Daddy!”

Lacey chuckled against his lips. “You go herd the kids, I'll put on the coffee and the cinnamon rolls I begged off Jackie.”

“You are a goddess, have I told you that?”

“hmmm, a few times, yeah.”

“Guys,” Al shouted from the hall, “if you don't get in here, I'm gonna cause a paradox. She's too bleeding chipper.”

Lacey sighed as they moved to get up. “Only our daughter would hate her younger self.”

“Yeah, well, must get it from you. You are not exactly your most chipper in the morning.”

“Oi! Look who's talking mister incoherent before my first cup of coffee.”

“Daad! Al's touching me!”

“Do you two think you could stop bickering just once and Let mum and Owen actually get breakfast first?” Joey said with an exasperated sigh, sounding more like a father than an older brother.

Lacey and Owen looked at each other and chuckled. “Merry Christmas,” she said, on her way to the kitchen while Owen went to referee between the five year old and the twenty two year old versions of their child. Winnifred was already in the kitchen with Matt, and pointed at the coffee already made and the cinnamon rolls heating in the oven. “thank you. Although why do I get the feeling you two are hiding from Alice?”

“You'd be right,” Fred said in her small voice. “Were we ever that bad?”

Lacey nodded, pouring two cups of coffee. “Sometimes worse. Now come on, into the living room, both of you. Your grandfather is expecting us sometime before noon since I managed to get roped into helping with dinner again this year.”

“Roped nothing, mum,” Matt said as they followed her in, “you volunteered. You know it's the only way to keep wandering hands out of the food.”

Lacey chuckled as she joined they joined the family in the living room, Owen having already separated to the two girls. Alice was playing peek a boo with her infant niece, Al was sulking over a cup of coffee and trying her best to not look like she was actually just a teensy bit excited about Christmas with the family. Tosh and Joey were separating out the presents already. She sat down next to her husband, handing him the cup of coffee as the other two kids settled in with the rest. She leaned against his shoulder a content smile on her face as he put an arm around her. She looked up at him, before looking at the family again. She still couldn't believe it sometimes. After all they had gone through, all they had both lost, to be sitting here with the kids, it made everything worth it.

“Dad, there's nothing here from Father Christmas,” Alessandra said, sounding a bit disappointed.

“Oh, I don't know about that,” Owen said, shifting a bit so he could put his coffee mug down. “Did you check outside?” The little girl brightened running out to the backyard. Lacey smirked as she watched him tic down how long it took her to see the brand new bicycle sitting outside.

She came running back in, brown hair bouncing behind her. “It's a bike! A blue bike, just like I asked for! Can I ride it? Please?”

“After breakfast,” Lacey said, “And don't forget your coat when you go out.”

“Thanks mom!” She ran up to both them and gave them a hug and a kiss. “Merry Christmas Mom, Dad!” She took off, a ball of energy right into the kitchen, Matt right behind her to keep her from burning herself on the oven when they went for the Cinnamon Rolls. The rest followed, leaving the adults a quiet moment.

Lacey watched Owen's face. “You're plotting something, Owen. I know that look.”

He chuckled, looking down at her. “Just thinking about teaching her to ride that bike.”

“Well, I hope that goes better for you than building the tree house this summer,” she said, chuckling.

“You are never going to let me live that down are you?”

“You fell out of the tree and broke your arm. Of course not.”

“Oi! You two coming or we going to have to drag you in here? We're hungry and the pipsqueak won't let us have any until you get in here.” Al said, leaning on the door.

“Yes, love, we're coming, tell her to hand out the buns or she won't get to ride her new bike until tomorrow.” Lacey said. Al nodded, calling into the kitchen what Lacey had said. She stood up with Owen shaking her head again. “She gets more like you every day.”

He hummed in agreement. “Come on, we better get in there before Alice and Al start at each other again.” He paused quickly though, givng her another kiss. “Merry Christmas, Lace.”

“Merry Christmas, Owen.”
